Bet Alabama To Win The Sugar Bowl Because…
The last time Alabama (11-1 SU, 5-7 ATS ) took the field, the Tide were on the wrong end of a humbling 26-14 Iron Bowl loss against Auburn that kept them out of the SEC championship this past weekend. Still, Alabama made the cut as the No. 4 seed and rightfully so over an Ohio State team that got past previously unbeaten Wisconsin in the Big Ten title tilt on Saturday.
Despite their loss against Auburn two weeks ago, Alabama had another phenomenal season under head coach Nick Saban while finishing first in points allowed by limiting the opposition to a mind-boggling 11.5 points per contest while also finishing 12th nationally in scoring by averaging a stellar 39.1 points per contest.
Sophomore quarterback Jalen Hurts had another strong season by throwing 15 TD passes and just one interception while adding 768 rushing yards and eight scores on the ground. Running back Damien Harris led the Tide in rushing with 906 yards and 11 touchdowns while averaging a stellar 8.2 yards per carry.
Bet Clemson To Win The Sugar Bowl Because…
The Tigers were mostly phenomenal this season under first-time starter Kelly Bryant – and a defense that is now as good as any in college football, including Alabama’s. Clemson spanked Miami 38-3 in the ACC championship on Saturday to punch their ticket to the CFP as Bryant passed for 252 yards and one touchdown while rushing for another score.
Clemson put four rushing scores on the board against the Hurricanes and picked off quarterback Malik Rosier twice in the dominating win this past weekend. The Tigers are ranked 21st in scoring this season (35.4 ppg) and a stupendous second to Alabama in points allowed (12.8 ppg) and Kelly Bryant has been very good in throwing 13 TD passes while adding 11 rushing scores while completing a blistering 67.4 percent of his passes.
Bama Vs Clemson Sugar Bowl Pick
The Tigers have an excellent defense that I believe will limit Alabama’s run-first offense more than Alabama’s defense will limit Clemson’s more balanced offensive attack. Clemson running back Travis Etienne (6.4 ypg, 7 Tds) is a star in the making and he, along with Bryant’s dual-threat abilities, are going to give Nick Saban and Alabama’s defense fits in this contest.
Alabama is a shocking 0-4 ATS in their last four games in the month of January, 0-4 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record and 3-14 ATS in their last 17 games following a SU loss. Conversely, Clemson has gone an unblemished 7-0 ATS in their last 7 bowl games, a pristine 8-0 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games and bankroll-boosting 10-1 ATS in their last 11 neutral site games. Clemson gets it done against Alabama for the second straight time – in a game where I’m surprised they’re an underdog in the first place!
