No. 14 Oklahoma State Hosts Winless Baylor Bears, But Can Cowboys Cover Huge Spread?
The 14th-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys are well-rested and they’re coming off a bye in Week 6 as they get set to host the winless Baylor Bears this Saturday.
Even though Oklahoma State picked up a win in their last contest and are clearly a better team than Baylor, the big question surrounding this Big 12 matchup is whether or not the Cowboys can cover the college football betting line as three-touchdown-plus home favorites.

Why Bet the Baylor Bears Spread at +22.5
Baylor may have taken a 33-20 road loss at Kansas State last weekend, but the Bears have played some respectable football the last three weeks and really gave Oklahoma a scare in their 49-41 home loss on Sept. 23. The bad news is that Baylor has gotten some mediocre play at quarterback this season with Zach Smith completing just 55.4 percent of his passes for 1,033 yards with eight touchdowns and five interceptions. Smith and fellow quarterback Anu Solomon and Smith have combined for 12 touchdown passes and seven mostly costly interceptions this season. The Bears are averaging 27.2 points per game (80th) while allowing an overly generous 36.2 points per contest defensively (112nd).
Why Bet the Oklahoma State Cowboys Spread at -22.5
The best reason to bet on Oklahoma State in this contest is that they have a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate in quarterback Mason Rudolph and can put points on the board in a hurry as their second-ranked scoring offense suggests (46.8 ppg). For the season, Rudolph is completing a stellar 67.6 percent of his passes for 1,909 yards with 16 touchdowns and four interceptions. Still, Oklahoma State hasn’t looked like world-beaters in splitting their last two games while narrowly getting by Texas Tech 41-34 two weeks ago and getting smacked around by TCU in their stunning 44-31 home loss on Sept. 23. The Cowboys are allowing 26.0 points per game defensively (26th).
“We’re not a great power football team,” head coach Mike Gundy said. “That’s not something we do. So we’re certainly aware of it and we’ve taken note and hopefully, we’ll be better. We have to score more touchdowns down in there if we’re going to win these games.”
Baylor Vs Oklahoma State Expert Pick
Look, I don’t think there’s any way that Oklahoma State loses this game to a clearly inferior Baylor team, but I also don’t like the Cowboys to cover the spread as a 22.5-point home favorite, seeing as how the Cowboys have allowed a whopping 78 combined points over their last two games.
If you’re a casual college football observer then you might not know it, but Baylor hired a really, really good head coach in former temple leader Matt Rhule and I believe it’s only a matter of time before he gets the program that former head coach Art Briles nearly ruined back on the national map after turning Temple into a Top 20 team the last two seasons.
Oklahoma State is just 1-4 ATS in their last five conference games while Baylor has gone 4-1 ATS in their L/5 games against a team with a winning record. Again, despite their winless record, Baylor has improved in a big way since the start of the season and I believe they can cover the chalk against an Oklahoma State team that has been pretty generous defensively this season.
