Why Bet The Baylor Bears To Beat The Mountaineers

The Bears (6-5 SU, 2-9 ATS) have lost five straight games and got smacked senseless by high-scoring Texas Tech in their 54-35 Week 13 loss this past Friday while never coming close to covering the spread as a 4-point favorite just as I predicted (duh).

Baylor has fallen completely apart after winning its first six games this season. The Bears have given up at least 35 points in their five straight losses and at least 42 points in each of their last four games. Baylor’s pitiful defense not only gave up 54 points to Texas Tech last time out,  but they also gave up a whopping 62 points in falling to TCU on November 5.

The Bears are ranked a stupendous fourth nationally in total offense (530.9 ypg), while also ranking 27th in scoring at 36.2 points per contest.

Backup quarterback Zach Smith has completed a discouraging 57.9 percent of his passes for 907 yards with eight touchdowns and four interceptions since taking over for injured starter Seth Russell.

Defensively, Baylor is giving up 31.0 points per game to rank 85th in points allowed, but have given up a mind-boggling 47.6 points per contest over their five-game losing streak.

Why Bet The West Virginia Mountaineers To Beat The Bears

The Mountaineers (9-2 SU, 5-6 ATS) bounced back from their humbling loss to Oklahoma one week earlier to rout Iowa State 49-19 this past Saturday and easily cover the spread as a 7.5-point road favorite as quarterback Skyler Howard passed for 330 yards and tossed five TD passes to lead the Mountaineers to victory.

West Virginia is ranked 41st nationally in scoring at 33.4 points per game. For the season, Howard is completing 62.5 percent of his passes for 3,083 yards with 24 touchdowns and a respectable 10 interceptions. West Virginia is a well-balanced team that ranks 25th in passing (281.6 ypg) and 23rd in rushing (233.0 ypg).

Defensively, West Virginia has limited the opposition to 23.6 points per game to rank 37th nationally in points allowed.

Baylor Vs West Virginia Final Score Prediction

I’m going to get right to the point by saying that I’m completely and utterly stunned that 56 percent of the betting public likes Baylor to cover the spread in this contest.

Not only have the Bears gone 0-4 ATS in their last four games following a straight-up or ATS loss, but they’re also 0-5 ATS in their last five conference games and 0-6 ATS in their last half-dozen road games.

West Virginia is 4-0 ATS in their last four games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game. More importantly, Baylor couldn’t stop running water if their collective lives depended on it.

There’s no way in hell I’d back Baylor to cover any spread these days with the way they’re giving up points. West Virginia can be downright explosive on occasion and I expect them to have their way offensively while pounding Baylor that until the Bears wave the white flag.

My final score prediction is West Virginia 49 Baylor 28
