Betting The New Mexico Bowl – UTEP Miners vs Utah State AggiesNoah Williams
The 2014 Gildan New Mexico Bowl will be a battle of wills between the Utah State Aggies and the UTEP Miners from the C-USA conference in Albuquerque, NM.
The Aggies finished their regular season in the Mountain West at 6-2 in conference play, 9-3 overall. The Miners finished third in their conference at 5-3, 7-5 overall. This will be the Aggies fourth consecutive bowl appearance. If Utah State coach Matt Wells’ team is successful in Albuquerque, it will be their third straight bowl win.

Why UTEP Will Win the New Mexico Bowl
UTEP will win the 2014 New Mexico Bowl because they can score the ball and average just a shade more than Utah State this season, combined with the fact that Utah State’s quarterback situation is in shambles. 42 percent of the betting public like the Miners to cover the spread as double-digit dogs, and clearly, with a stellar 9-3 ATS mark that ranked as one of the best in the nation this season, it’s clear that UTEP has a shot at the very least.
Why Utah State Will Win the New Mexico Bowl
Utah State will win this contest because they’ve simply been the better, more consistent team all season. The Aggies will also have their fair share of motivation after getting obliterated by Boise State in their last Mountain West conference contest of the season. Prior to their last contest, the Aggies had not allowed any of their previous nine opponents to score more than 21 points.

Who Will Win the New Mexico Bowl?
Utah State will undoubtedly win this contest, even if they have to turn to a green signal-caller in freshman Kent Myers. The Aggies have the far better defense as they allow 7.9 fewer points per game than UTEP and they had been on fire prior to their last game against a very good Boise State team, winning each of their previous five. I like the Utah State Aggies to win this game outright, but I’m going with UTEP to cover a point spread that probably should have been at least four points lower.
The Aggies are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 16-5 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Miners are 3-7 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
UTEP is 6-1 ATS in their last seven games while Utah State has gone 1-4 ATS in its last five non-conference matchups. Besides, after losing three quarterbacks this season, is there anything else that the shock the Aggies?
