How To Bet The Boca Raton Bowl Betting Odds Feat Akron Vs Florida Atlantic

The Florida Atlantic Owls are undeniably the ‘better’ team in their 2017 Cheribundi Tart Cherry Boca Raton Bowl matchup against the Akron Zips, making the only question that college football bettors need to answer, is whether or not FAU can cover the chalk as three touchdown plus home favorites.

Let’s find out now what’s going to go down when this game gets underway on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 7:00 PM ET on Florida Atlantic’s home field while airing on ESPN.

Akron had their modest two-game winning streak snapped in their season-ending 45-28 blowout loss against Toledo on Dec. 2 while failing to cover the spread as a 20.5-point underdog. The Zips went 3-3 over their last six games and averaged a modest 23.6 points per game on the year (103rd) while giving up 26.3 points per contest defensively (60th).

Quarterback Thomas Woodson had a mediocre season by completing just 57.2 percent of his passes for 1,77 yards with 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions in seven starts. Akron also struggled to run the ball with leading rusher, Manny Morgan totaling just 393 yards on the year. The Zips finished the season ranked 99th in total yards allowed (432.3 ypg) and an identical 99th against the run (196.7 ypg).

Florida Atlantic has won nine straight and put up a ton of points under head coach Lane Kiffin. The Owls beat the hell out of North Texas 41-17 in the Conference USA championship game on Dec. 2 and average a stellar 39.8 points per game (9th) while allowing a respectable 24.2 points per contest defensively (44th). Quarterback Jason Driskel completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 1,977 yards with 13 touchdowns and just four interceptions. Running back Devin Singletary rushed for a phenomenal 1,794 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Akron is an encouraging 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games and unblemished 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games following a loss, but Florida Atlantic has gone 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record and you had better believe that Lane Kiffin wants to cap off this season with a statement-making win as he seeks another big-time job at some point in the very near future. I may not be a fan of the huge college football betting spread, but FAU covers!

Pick: Florida Atlantic -22.5
