Analyzing The Boston College Vs Florida State Against The Spread Odds

Florida State has been living on the edge. The Seminoles barely held off Notre Dame, was down to Louisville and came back and just this past Saturday had to come back against the Miami Hurricanes. FSU should find the going much easier versus a Boston College squad that just isn’t close to being at the Seminoles’ level.

The Eagles do have a winning record at 6 and 4 and they also have an overall winning against the spread record at 6 and 4, but BC has had trouble against lesser teams than Florida State. In their last contest, they lost 19 to 38 to Louisville. The Boston College defense usually only allows 323.5 yards and 21.9 points per game, but against Louisville, BC gave up 423 total yards and 38 points. The defense just didn’t play as well as it usually does.

Boston College’s offense could have helped, though. Louisville does have a very good defense, but the Eagles didn’t get to their averages. While BC usually averages 399 total yards, they could only muster 332 against the Cardinals. Boston College usually scores 26.6 points, but they could score only 19 against Louisville.

Florida State has no such issues on offense. The Seminoles are averaging 446.6 yards per game against defenses. FSU scores an awesome 37.1 points per game and whether you love him or hate him Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston has been close to unstoppable in the fourth quarter. He just has that knack for willing his team to victories.

The Seminoles’ defense has started to play better. Florida State is now allowing less than 400 yards per game at 385. Opponents are scoring only 22.8 points per game against the Seminoles D and FSU allows less than 140 yards rushing per game at 139.7.

The trends point to both teams having a shot at covering the spread in this matchup. Florida State is 6 and 1 against the spread in their last 7 games in November. The Seminoles are also 7 and 3 against the spread versus a team with a winning record but 3 and 8 against the spread in their last 11 games overall. Boston College is 9 and 1 against the spread in their last 10 games following an against the spread loss and 4 and 1 against the spread in their last 5 games following a double-digit loss at home. But the Eagles are also 5 and 11 ATS in their last 16 road games.

Boston College should play tough, but Florida State is due for a big victory. Boston College just doesn’t have the offense to stick with the Seminoles and Florida State is 2 and 1 against the spread in their last 3 games. They should beat Boston College by at least 3 touchdowns in this matchup.
