Bet The Iowa State Cyclones at +15 Because…
Joel Lanning completed 18 of 28 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns but also tossed two costly interceptions in Iowa State’s humbling 25-20 loss against Northern Iowa in Week 1. The Cyclones fell flat by getting held to just seven second half points in head coach Matt Campbell’s debut.
"It’s really hard for us right now to play behind the chains. We have to have the ability to play in positive situations. When you’re not in those, you start pressing and then turnovers and those things happen like they did in the second half," Campbell said.
Bet The Iowa Hawkeyes at -15 Because…
Iowa running backs Akrum Wadley and LeShun Daniels rushed for 121 and 83 yards respectively to led Iowa to a convincing 45-21 win over Miami-Ohio in Week 1. Both backs scored two touchdowns while quarterback C.J. Beathard completed 13 of 20 passes for 192 yards and a touchdown in the win.
Wadley and Daniels racked up their yardage on just 22 combined carries.
"With LeShun splitting the carries and that line we’re running behind, it makes it so much easier. You could probably run through that, with the line we’ve got." Wadley said, joking with a reporter.
Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction
While I’m not real fond of the point spread surrounding this contest – and Iowa ruined my pick for them to cover in Week 1 – I am coming back with another pick for the Hawkeyes to narrowly cover the spread against an offensively-challenged Iowa State squad.
Iowa may be just 1-4-1 ATS in its last 6 games, but the Iowa State Cyclones have gone 2-6 ATS in its last eight road games and that just doesn’t inspire a whole lot of confidence in me.
Iowa State has lost five straight games dating back to last season while Iowa has won 13 of its last 15 games overall. It’s going to be close, but I like Iowa to get the win and ATS cover!
