UConn was on the wrong end of a 31-24 loss against Syracuse on Saturday that dropped them to 2-2 on the season. Huskies junior quarterback Bryant Shirreffs completed 27 of 45 passes for 264 yards with one touchdown and one pick while running back Arkeel Newsome rushed 14 times for 51 yards and one score.
Unfortunately, the Huskies allowed Syracuse quarterback Eric Dungey to pass for 407 yards and two touchdowns in the loss while allowing Orange wide receiver Amba Etta-Tawo to catch 12 passes for a school record 270 yards and two TD receptions.
Connecticut is now 1-5 ATS in its last 6 games and the Under is 8-2 in Connecticut’s last 10 games. The bad news is that the Huskies are allowing more points per game (23.0) than they are averaging offensively (20.3).
Houston remained unbeaten by pounding the hell out of overmatched Texas State in their
64-3 Week 4 win as a 31-point favorite no less.
Dual-threat signal-caller Greg Ward Jr. completed an efficient 20 of 26 passes for 289 yards with two touchdowns while rushing seven times for 39 yards and an additional touchdown. Running back Duke Catalon rushed 10 times for 70 yards and one score and three different receivers all caught touchdown passes in the win.
Houston is 6-1 ATS in its last seven games and the Under is 8-3 in Houston’s last 11 games.
Expert ATS Pick
The Cougars are ranked ninth in the nation in scoring by averaging a stellar 45.7 points per game. That’s only half of the story however as Houston also ranks 10th in points allowed (14.0 ppg).
While UConn is ranked a very solid 42nd in points allowed (23.0 ppg), the Huskies haven’t faced an opponent the quality of the Cougars nor can they keep up with Houston in this affair with an offense that averages a modest 20.3 points per game (103rd).
The Huskies’ 15-34-3 ATS mark in their last 52 games overall shows a long inability to cover the spread as does their more recent 6-20-1 ATS record in their last 27 road games and 1-4 ATS mark in their last five games against a team with a winning record.
The Houston Cougars are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall, 5-1 ATS in their last six games in the month of September and 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a straight up (SU) win.
I don’t like the high point spread, but I do like the Houston Cougars to narrowly cover it!
