Given there are so many great college football games to bet on in week 3, it may get a tad hazy on finding the money makers. I am here to give you the scoop on the underdogs who will upset the CFB betting favorite at least against the spread.
Air Force at No. 4 Michigan State (-26)
Michigan State might suffer a letdown after the huge win over Oregon in Week 2. Even though the Spartans were favored in that game, they played as if they were the underdogs. That’s a good attitude to have when playing versus the Ducks. No way will Michigan State be confused as the dog versus Air Force. This is a lot of points to give up to a team that averages 411 yards per game on the ground. Expect Air Force to cover ATS .

Illinois at North Carolina (-9.5)
North Carolina is supposed to be the much better team than Illinois. Plus, Illinois got rid of their coach before the season started. How did that work out? The Illini are 2 and 0. They’ve outscored their 2 opponents this season by a combined 96 to 3. Interim coach Bill Cubit has a lot of motivated players on this team. Some of them have terrific skills. Illinois will win this game straight up .
Nebraska at Miami -3
Save for a Hail Mary pass in Week 1, Nebraska would be undefeated and ranked in the Top 20. BYU went on to upset Boise State in Week 2. That shows you the quality of opponent the Cornhuskers lost to via that Hail Marry pass. Miami is a decent team, but Nebraska is expertly coached by Mike Riley. The Cornhuskers might only lose 1 or 2 more games this season. Losing to Miami won’t be one of them. Nebraska straight up is the play.
Utah State at Washington (-5.5)
Washington’s defense played very well versus Boise State. But, then, Boise State lost to BYU. How good is the Broncos’ offense? It’s a legitimate question. Utah State is getting close to 6 points in this game. The Aggies also go into this one off of a very good effort against Utah, a team that figures to finish much higher in the Pac 12 than Washington. Utah State is good enough to win straight up, but taking the points makes the most sense. Utah State to cover ATS .
Rutgers at Penn State (-10)
The Nittany Lions haven’t covered in 2 straight games. First, they failed as 6 point favorites versus Temple when losing by 17. In Week 2, they beat Buffalo 27 to 14 as a -17 point favorite. Penn State’s offense is dreadful. QB Christian Hackenberg is completing 48% of his passes. He’s only thrown for 231 yards. Rutgers is averaging 48 points a game. This is the Big Upset of Week 3 . Expect Rutgers to win straight up.
