Chick-fil-A Bowl Betting Line – Duke vs. Texas A&M -11.5Noah Williams
The Chik-fil-A Bowl betting line heavily favors Jonny Manziel and the Texas A&M Aggies in the only game of the day that features ranked teams. This could be your last chance to make a college football bet on Johnny Football before he matriculates to the NFL. But are the Aggies worth backing after going just 5-7 ATS on the season?
The Aggies had one of the best offensive teams in the country, but were consistently buried because of the perception of Johnny Manziel as a bit of a diva. Any time the Aggies lost a game, the associated press would drop them as far as humanly possible in the rankings. At the same time, Manziel had to fight tooth and nail to get noticed by the Heisman committee after winning the illustrious trophy the year prior.
Manziel was undeniable one of the best players in the country this season anyhow. He amazed 3,732 passing yards and 675 rushing yards to go along with an astounding 45 touchdowns. Those don’t match his earth shattering numbers from last year, but he still had a strong season overall and is the major reason why Texas A&M is such a strong favorite on the Chik-fil-A Bowl betting line.
The Aggies never really recovered from losing to Alabama and Auburn earlier in the year, and despite a strong overall record they also lost their last two games against LSU and Missouri. Both of those teams boast fantastic defenses, and they found ways to bottle up the dynamic and previously unstoppable Manziel.
Counting on Duke’s defense doing the same is almost a laughable idea. However, the Blue Devils put themselves on the football map with a resounding 10-3 SU and ATS year that saw them appear in the ACC Championship game. Of course, they were murdered in that game 7-45 when lined up against current Heisman winner Jameis Winston.
Duke has shown the ability to contain creative offences, beating Navy 35-7 and Miami 48-30 but it’s virtually impossible to imagine them beating one of the best teams in the country from the best conference out there. Their loss to FSU snapped a seven-game winning and cover streak built against the fledgling fodder of the ACC. Matching them up against an explosive Aggies team led by another Heisman winner just seems cruel.
The points on the Chik-fil-A Bowl betting line are undoubtedly an intriguing play considering how well Duke played above their ceiling this season. But the month of extended rest gives the highly inventive Kevin Sumlin plenty of time to find holes in Duke’s defense and expose them using one of the most thrilling weapons in all of college football. Manziel has always had a knack for saving his best for big time games.
Manziel will want to end his career on a high note before he throws his name in to the NFL draft. You’ll want to end your 2013 year with a victory against the spread as well, right? So do yourself a favor and bet on the smart side of the Chik-fil-A Bowl betting line.
