College Football Christmas Week Bowl Game ATS Picks

What: Hyundai Sun Bowl
Who: Miami (FL) Hurricanes (8-4) at Washington State Cougars (8-4)
When: Saturday December 26, 2015
Kickoff: 2:00 PM ET
Where: El Paso, TX
Stadium: Sun Bowl
Spread: Washington State -3
Moneyline: Miami (FL) +115 vs Washington State -145
Game Total: 62
Watch: CBS
Stream: CBS Sports
Listen: Miami vs Washington State

Analysis: Washington State has been one of the top teams in the Pac 12 all season long. The Cougars beat Oregon, Oregon State, ASU, Arizona and UCLA. They probably should have beaten Stanford. Save for a 10 to 45 loss to Washington in their last game of the season, they had to play without starting QB Luke Falk, Washington State was ultra-consistent in the Pac. Falk should return under center for this battle. He’ll have no trouble taking apart a Miami defense that allowed North Carolina to score 59 in a loss during the regular season.

Pick: Washington State -3

What: Foster Farms Bowl
Who: UCLA Bruins (8-4) at Nebraska Cornhuskers (5-7)
When: Saturday December 26, 2015
Kickoff: 9:15 PM ET
Where: Santa Clara, CA
Stadium: Levi’s Stadium
Spread: UCLA -6.5
Moneyline: UCLA -275 vs Nebraska +213
Game Total: 60
Watch: ESPN
Stream: Watch ESPN
Listen: UCLA vs Nebraska

Analysis: Nebraska finished its season by losing 3 out of its last 5. The problem for the Cornhuskers is that QB Tommy Armstrong makes a lot of errant throws. Armstrong only completes 54.8% of his passes. He’s thrown 16 picks to 21 touchdowns. In UCLA’s last 7 games, QB Josh Rosen threw 11 touchdowns to only 2 interceptions. Rosen should have no trouble leading the Bruins to a cover win in this battle.

Pick: UCLA -6.5

What: Russell Athletic Bowl
Who: No. 10 North Carolina Tar Heels (11-2) at No. 17 Baylor Bears (9-3)
When: Tuesday, December 29, 2015
Kickoff: 5:30 PM ET
Where: Orlando, FL
Stadium: Florida Citrus Bowl
Spread: North Carolina -1.5
Moneyline: North Carolina +135 vs Baylor -155
Watch: ESPN
Stream: Watch ESPN
Listen: North Carolina vs Baylor

Analysis: The spread is a gift to football handicappers. Santa’s coming early because Baylor is down to their third and fourth string quarterbacks. Those two quarterbacks play against a North Carolina defense that allowed only 194 passing yards and 22.6 points per game on average. On offense, North Carolina averaged close to 41 points and 487 total yards per game. The Tar Heels have a chance to win this by at least two touchdowns.

Pick: North Carolina -1.5

College Football Christmas Week Bowl Game Total Over/Under Picks

What: Zaxby’s Heart Of Dallas Bowl
Who: Washington Huskies (6-6) at Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (9-4)
When: Saturday December 26, 2015
Kickoff: 2:20 PM ET
Where: Dallas, TX
Stadium: Cotton Bowl
Spread: Washington -8.5
Moneyline: Washington -333 vs Southern Mississippi +260
Game Total: 55
Watch: ESPN
Stream: Watch ESPN
Listen: Washington vs Southern Mississippi

Analysis: Both of these squads have decent defenses. Southern Mississippi allows 24.2 points from 364.1 yards per game. Washington allows 17.8 points from 349.9 yards on average per game. Washington and Southern Miss have the ability to score, but knowing how good each team’s defense is means that both offenses figure to be conservative. Expect an under game.
Pick: Under

What: Military Bowl Presented By Northrop Grumman
Who: Pittsburgh Panthers (8-4) at No 21. Navy Midshipmen (10-2)
When: Monday, December 28, 2015
Kickoff: 2:30 PM ET
Where: Annapolis, MD
Stadium: Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium
Spread: Navy -3.5
Moneyline: Pittsburgh +165 vs Navy -190
Game Total: 54
Watch: ESPN
Stream: Watch ESPN
Listen: Pittsburgh vs Navy

Analysis: Pittsburgh’s offense got it going on in the Panthers final three games. Pitt scored 31 against Duke in a win, 45 against Louisville in a win and 24 against Miami in a loss. The Navy Midshipmen average 36.2 points and 411.4 yards per game. The Over went 4 and 1 in Navy’s last 5 games of the regular season. This sure looks like an over contest to me.

Pick: Over

What: Advocare V100 Texas Bowl
Who: No. 20 LSU Tigers (8-3) at Texas Tech Red Raiders (7-5)
When: Tuesday, December 29, 2015
Kickoff: 8:00 PM ET
Where: Houston, TX
Stadium: NRG Stadium
Spread: LSU -7
Moneyline: LSU -275 vs Texas Tech +213
Game Total: 73.5
Watch: ESPN
Stream: Watch ESPN
Listen: LSU vs Texas Tech

Analysis: Texas Tech has one of the most dynamic offenses in college football. The Red Raiders average 594.5 yards and 46.6 points per game. But, at times the Red Raiders offense can appear stagnant. Texas Tech only scored 27 against Oklahoma and 26 against West Virginia in two losses during the season. LSU’s defense is likely to give Texas Tech some trouble while the Tigers’ rushing attack will control the time of possession. Go under.

Pick: Under

College Football Christmas Week Bowl Game Straight Up Moneyline Picks

What: St. Petersburg Bowl
Who: Connecticut Huskies (6-6) at Marshall Thundering Herd (9-3)
When: Saturday December 26, 2015
Kickoff: 11:00 AM ET
Where: Saint Petersburg, FL
Stadium: Tropicana Field
Spread: Marshall -4
Moneyline: Connecticut +160 vs Marshall -200
Game Total: 43
Watch: ESPN
Stream: Watch ESPN
Listen: UConn vs Marshall

Analysis: Connecticut won 3 out of its last 4 games of the season, including beating East Carolina 31 to 13 and beating Houston 20 to 17 via a strong defense and a better than it looks rushing attack. Overall, the Huskies allow 19.8 points per game on average and 352.2 total yards per game on average. Connecticut rushes for 124.6 yards per game. Expect the Huskies rushing total to go past the average since Marshall allows over 171 rushing yards per matchup.

Pick: Connecticut

What: Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl
Who: California Golden Bears (7-5) at Air Force Falcons (8-5)
When: Tuesday, December 29, 2015
Kickoff: 2:00 PM ET
Where: Fort Worth, TX
Stadium: Amon G. Carter Stadium
Spread: Cal -7
Moneyline: California -278 vs Air Force +240
Game Total: 65.5
Watch: ESPN
Stream: Watch ESPN
Listen: California vs Air Force

Analysis: California has an impressive offense. QB Jared Goff might be the first quarterback taken in the 2016 NFL Draft. But, the Cal defense allows a huge 203.5 rushing yards per game. That’s going to be a problem for Cal in their battle against Air Force in the Armed Forces Bowl. The Falcons average 322.1 rushing yards per matchup. Air Force upsets the Golden Bears on Dec. 29.

Pick: Air Force
