Pre-Christmas College Football Bowl Game Expert Picks

I have a trio of expert college football bowl picks that you’re about to get on three upcoming bowl games that will all take place between December 18-24, you’re going to have a great chance to either boost your bowl betting bankroll or get back in the black if you’ve had a rough start.

College Football Bowl Game Expert Picks

Boca Raton Bowl
Akron Zips (7-6) at Florida Atlantic Owls (10-3)
College Football: Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 7:00 PM ET
Where: FAU Stadium
The Line: Florida Atlantic Owls -22.5
Over/Under: 64
TV: ESPN

Analysis: I said it before and I’ll say it again. Florida Atlantic is going to blow Akron out of the water in this contest simply because Lane Kiffin wants to run up the score on his overmatched opponents in this contest in the hopes of landing another big-time job at some point in the near future. FAU has won nine straight and put up a ton of points under Kiffin. The Owls average a stellar 39.8 points per game (9th) while allowing a respectable 24.2 points per contest defensively (44th).

Akron averages a modest 23.6 points per game (103rd) while giving up 26.3 points per contest defensively (60th). As much as I’d like to see Akron give Florida Atlantic a hard way to go in this contest, I just don’t see it happening. The Owls are simply too offensively explosive.

Pick: Florida Atlantic -22.5

DXL Frisco Bowl
LA Tech Bulldogs (6-6) at SMU Mustangs (7-5)
When: Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 8:00 PM ET
Where: Toyota Stadium
TV: ESPN
The Line: SMU Mustangs -5
Total: 70

Analysis: While both starting quarterbacks in this affair completed less than 60.0 percent of his passes, the SMU Mustangs have a high-scoring offense that averaged 40.8 points per game while Louisiana Tech put up a more modest 28.8 points per game.

The Bulldogs are also just 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record while SMU has gone 4-0 ATS in their last four non-conference games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against teams from Conference USA and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games in the month of December. Despite the fact that SMU doesn’t play much defense, I like the Mustangs to simply outscore the Bulldogs en route to win and ATS cover!

Pick: SMU -5

Houston Cougars (7-4) at Fresno State Bulldogs (9-4)
NCAAF Odds: Sunday, December 24, 2017 at 8:30 PM ET
Where: Aloha Stadium
TV: ESPN
The Line: Houston -2.5
Total: 50

The Houston Cougars won three of their last four games to finish with seven wins while Fresno State had their four-game winning streak snapped in their heartbreaking 17-14 loss Mountain West championship game loss against No. 25 Boise State on Dec. 2 one week after beating the Broncos 28-17.

Still, for me, the Bulldogs are the pick to win and cash in against Houston, mostly because they have one of the best defenses in the country this season. Fresno State limits the opposition to just 17.2 points per contest to rank a stellar ninth nationally in points allowed.

I also like the fact that Fresno State quarterback Marcus McMaryion completed 61.1 percent of his passes while throwing for 2,384 yards with 14 TD passes and just four interceptions. If he doesn’t turn the ball over, which I don’t really see happening, then the Dogs should be able to beat Houston outright in my mind.

I know Houston is 12-4 ATS in their last 16 non-conference games and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 neutral site game, but the Cougars are also 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game. Conversely, Fresno State is a robust 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS win and I believe their superior defense will help them get the outright win to cover the chalk!

Pick: Fresno State +2.5
