College Football Bowl Game ATS Betting Picks

What: Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl
Who: BYU Cougars (9-3) at No. 22 Utah Utes (9-3)
When: Saturday, December 19, 2015
Kickoff: 3:30 PM ET
Where: Las Vegas, NV
Stadium: Sam Boyd Stadium
Spread: Utah -2.5
Moneyline: BYU +125 vs Utah -145
Game Total: 54
Watch: ABC
Stream: Watch ESPN
Listen: BYU vs Utah

Analysis: The trends say that Utah covers this spread easily. The Utes are 8 and 2 ATS in their last 10 bowl games. The Utes are also 6 and 2 in their last 10 games in December and 39-18-2 ATS in their last 59 non-conference games. In the head to head, BYU is 1 and 5 in the last 6 meetings. BYU should be fired up after losing their coach to Virginia while Utah usually plays at a top level. Both defenses are plenty good enough to keep the offenses down. The real difference is that Utah beat Michigan as well as beating some good teams in the Pac 12 while BYU failed miserably against Michigan and got to beat up on teams like Fresno State, San Jose State and Utah State.

Pick: Utah

What: Miami Beach Bowl
Who: Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (11-2) at South Florida Bulls (8-4)
When: Monday, December 21, 2015

Stream: Watch ESPN
Listen: Western Kentucky vs South Florida

Analysis: The Miami Beach Bowl is a contrast in styles. The South Florida Bulls are known mainly for a stingy defense. The Bulls allow 361.2 yards and only 21 points per matchup. South Florida played against Florida State, Memphis, Navy and Cincinnati this season. Those are 4 good football teams. Western Kentucky has one of the top offenses in the nation. It averages 520 yards and 44 points per game. What swings this game in Western Kentucky’s favor is the presence of QB Brandon Doughty. Doughty is 6’ 3”, weighs 220 lbs, and threw for 4594 yards and 45 touchdowns when completing over 70% of his passes. He’ll lead the Hilltoppers to a cover.

Pick: Western Kentucky

What: Marmot Boca Raton Bowl
Who: Temple Owls (10-3) at Toledo Rockets (9-2)
When: Tuesday, December 22, 2015
Kickoff: 7:00 PM ET

Spread: Temple -1
Moneyline: Toledo +105 vs Temple -125
Game Total: 53
Watch: ESPN
Stream: Watch ESPN
Listen: Temple vs Toledo

Analysis: The trends won’t help you much in this game since the Owls and Rockets are both very good against the spread. Toledo went 8 and 2 ATS while Temple went 9 and 4 ATS. Both defenses are very good as well. Temple allows 329.2 yards and less than 20 points per game. Toledo allows 379 yards and 29 points per game. The difference should be strength of schedule where Toledo’s toughest opponents were probably Arkansas State and Northern Illinois while Temple played against Notre Dame and Houston and they beat Memphis.

Pick: Temple

Analysis: Louisiana Tech averages 37 points per game. Arkansas State averages 41 points per game. Neither team has a good enough defense to shut out the other’s offense. It’s tough to look past the Over after studying the trends. The Over is 14 and 2 in the Arkansas State Red Wolves last 16 games on field turf. The Over is 14 and 6 in Louisiana Tech’s last 20 games versus a team with a winning record. The Over sure looks like the way to go here.

Pick: Over

College Football Bowl Game Straight Up Moneyline Betting Picks

What: AutoNation Cure Bowl
Who: San Jose State Spartans (5-7) at Georgia State Panthers (6-6)
When: Saturday, December 19, 2015

Listen: San Jose State vs Georgia State

Analysis: It’s true that San Jose State played against tougher teams during the regular season. But, the Aztecs finished off the season by losing 3 out of their last 4 straight up. San Jose State did go 7 and 5 against the spread during the regular season. Georgia State went 98 and 3 ATS during the regular season. What’s more impressive is that Georgia State went 6-0-1 against the spread in their last 7 games. The Panthers also won their last 4 games straight up.

Pick: Georgia State

What: Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
Who: Akron Zips (7-5) at Utah State Aggies (6-6)
When: Tuesday, December 22, 2015
Kickoff: 3:30 PM ET

Spread: Utah State -6.5
Moneyline: Akron +210 vs Utah State -250
Game Total: 49
Watch: ESPN
Stream: Watch ESPN
Listen: Akron vs Utah State

Analysis: Favored Utah State may look like a no-brainer winner against the Akron Zips on Saturday. But, that’s just not the case. Utah State finished off the regular season by going 1 and 3 straight up. Akron finished off the regular season by going 4 and 0 straight up. Even though Utah State beat a team like Boise State this season, the Aggies lost to Utah, New Mexico, Washington, BYU and Air Force. Akron has improved as the year has gone on. The Zips have a big shot at the moneyline upset.

Pick: Akron
