College Football Expert Picks Sept 2016 EditionSportbet.com Staff
Betting lines have been set for a lot of college football games this season. In the month of September, there’s going to be some excellent college football games including Michigan State battling Notre Dame and Ohio State taking on Oklahoma. Below, I make expert college football betting picks for 8 top games in the month of September.

The Penn State Nittany Lions have to break in a new QB this season after Christian Hackenburg left for the NFL. Redshirt sophomore Trace McSorley will likely be the man under center for the Lions. Pitt has an excellent front 7. But Penn State’s offensive line should be much better in 2016 than it was in 2015. I’m tempted to take the points.
FBS Independent BYU battles interstate rival Utah on the road on Sept 10. The key for BYU will be the health of QB Taysom Hill. Hill missed all of last season after getting hurt in the Cougars’ win over Nebraska. If Hill is back to his old self, BYU could keep it close. Utah is probably going to replace QB Travis Wilson with 6’ 2”, 200 pounds, Washington transfer Troy Williams. But word is that freshman QB Tyler Huntley is a stud. One thing we know about Utah, the defense is going to be great. My college football betting expert pick is Utah to cover.
Arkansas lost only one player on defense. That tells me that Arkansas might have what it takes to keep this game against TCU within 6 points. Both of these teams are going to have new look offenses. Arkansas lost both its top RB as well as its starting QB. TCU lost the brilliant WR Josh Docston as well as their starting QB. I’ll take the points in what figures to be a defensive battle.

Start Time: 5:30 PM ET
Where: Notre Dame, IN
Stadium: Notre Dame Stadium

The Irish lost a ton on both defense and offense. But Coach Brian Kelly has recruited well so that the offensive line should be as good as it always is. Both QB’s, Malik Zaire and DeShone Kizer, are potential starters. That’s a good problem for Kelly to have. Michigan State has to restock on both sides of the ball as well. But Coach Mike Dantonio has done this before. To me, these 2 teams are probably closer to being even than Notre Dame being a 6 point favorite. I’m taking the points.
On paper, it looks like Oklahoma should whollop Ohio State…but 9 points? That’s an awful lot of points to give up. Oklahoma returns starters on both sides of the ball including Heisman Trophy Candidate QB Baker Mayfield. But the Sooners also have to rework their offensive line. Ohio State returns its own Heisman Trophy Candidate QB in J.T. Barrett. I have the feeling that Urban Meyer is going to find a way to exploit some of the holes that are bound to show up in the Sooners’ defense. My expert betting pick is the Buckeyes plus the points.
I think that Mike Riley has the Nebraska Cornhuskers on the right track. But it’s still too early to make Nebraska a favorite over Oregon even if this game takes place in Lincoln. The Cornhuskers’ defense is going to have a heck of a time stopping Oregon rusher Royce Freeman. I like the Ducks to win this game straight up.
This is one of those no-brainer picks in the month of September. Alabama lost one game last season. It was to Ole Miss. The reason they lost is because of how awesome WR Laquon Treadwell played. No Laquon Treadwell means that Alabama, who will have the best defense in all of college football, thumps the Rebels in this road battle.

Arkansas has a ridiculously tough schedule this season. Beating Texas A&M in Arlington is no gimmee. Luckily for the Razorbacks, Texas A&M has a dreadful QB situation. My college football betting expert pick is to for Arkansas to win by at least 3 points in this game.
