College football is a couple of weeks away and the oddsmakers have released the over/under total points scored predictions for all of Week 1’s games.
College Football Week 1 Over-Under Predictions
Georgia Tech vs. Clemson: 58 ½
Georgia Tech has a brand new offense this season. It’s hard to see the Yellow Jackets coming close to the 33.6 points they averaged last season. Clemson will score, but they won’t score enough for the over.
Utah vs. BYU: 47
Neither one of these teams will put up a ton of points in 2019. Utah has a defensive line on par with Alabama’s, Clemson’s, and Auburn’s. BYU might not score while Utah won’t score more than 38 to 42.
Wisconsin vs. South Florida: 57 ½
Wisconsin’s offense must rebuild the line. That could put the Badgers in upset danger territory versus the Bulls on the road. Wisconsin will score, though. Neither team has a very good defense, which means over the total is a real possibility.
Colorado State vs. Colorado: 64 ½
When two teams with okay offenses and bad defenses hit the gridiron, it’s usually an over game. Last season, Colorado beat Colorado State 45-13. The total was only 58. This season, the Rams are good for at least 21 to 28 while Colorado should score around 45 again.
Duke vs. Alabama: 60 ½
The total seems way too high for an Alabama team. However, the Crimson Tide averaged 45.6 points per. Not only that, Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is back. Plus, Bama’s wide receiver unit is one of the best in the nation. Alabama could hit over 60 ½ by themselves.
Virginia vs. Pittsburgh: 46 ½
Last year, UVA and Pitt accounted for 36 points. Virginia is a better team this year than last year. The Panthers won the ACC Coastal Division while averaging 25 points and allowing over 27 per. Both teams should score around 4 touchdowns in this. That’s 56 points.
Oregon vs. Auburn: 58 ½
Joey Gatewood is a -185 favorite to start for the Auburn Tigers. The real reason this total is so high is that Auburn isn’t expected to stop Oregon from scoring at will. But, the Tigers have one of the top defensive line’s in college football. Going under.
Florida vs. Miami FL: 50 ½
Florida averaged 35 points last season, which would make over 50 ½ a real possibility here. Miami FL might be staring at a transition season, though. Although that’s true, the Canes have a really good defense. So, even if they lose by 20 points to Florida, this could still go under.
Arizona vs. Hawaii: 70
Man, 70 is a lot of points! This is like a college basketball total between Wisconsin and Iowa. Then again, the Arizona Wildcats averaged 31.3 points. Hawaii averaged 30.8 points while allowing 35.1. That Zona defense gave up 32.6 per. Both teams should be better. Neither will slow the game down. Expect the total to approach 80.
