Although some dogs will have their day in Championship Games throughout college football this Saturday, some favorites appear too strong to pass up. Stanford, the favorite in the Pac 12 Championship Game, faces a foe that it has beaten already this season.
Alabama, the favorite in the SEC Championship Game, takes on a team that suddenly can’t find the end zone. The other college football week 14 five ? lock is in the Conference USA Championship Game when Southern Miss battles Western Kentucky.
A Closer Look At My College Football Week 14 Five ? Lock Picks
No. 7 Stanford vs No. 24 USC
When: Saturday, Dec. 5 at 7:45 pm ET
Odds: Stanford -4
Analysis: Stanford should be a much bigger favorite than -4 in this battle. It’s true that USC looked very good when beating rival UCLA this past Saturday, but the Trojans aren’t close to being as talented as Stanford.
The Cardinal dumped the Trojans 41 to 31 earlier this season as a +10 point underdog. Since that game, USC has been exposed for a team with a decent offense but a somewhat putrid defense. Notre Dame scored 31, Arizona scored 30 and Oregon scored 48. Stanford’s defense will stop USC’s offense a few times in this game. Stanford should easily win the Pac 12 Championship.
No. 9 Florida vs No. 2 Alabama
When: Saturday, Dec. 5 at 4:00 pm ET
Odds: Alabama -17
Analysis: Florida battles Alabama in the SEC Championship Game. The Tide opened up as a -17 point favorite. There has been no movement on this line meaning that football handicappers are seriously thinking about backing Alabama at such a big spread.
Why not? Alabama is the type of team that dominates its opponents. Sure, 29 to 13 against Auburn doesn’t look like a huge margin of victory. But, Auburn more often than not puts up a battle against Alabama. Not only that, but the stats imply that the margin of victory should have been much higher. Alabama outgained Auburn 465 yards to 260. Alabama held Auburn to 2.5 yards per carry on the ground while rushing for 5.5 yards per carry.
Florida hasn’t scored more than 20 points in its last 2 games. The Gators could score only 2 points against Florida State in a terrible 2 to 27 home loss in The Swamp in their last. Roll Tide.
Southern Miss at Western Kentucky
When: Saturday, Dec. 5 at 12:00 pm ET
Odds: Western Kentucky -7.5
Analysis: Southern Miss has been on a roll. The Golden Eagles have won 6 games in a row. No victory was more impressive than beating Louisiana Tech 58 to 24 in their last game. Not only did Southern Miss hold Louisiana Tech to 24 points, but they also beat LA Tech on the road.
Southern Miss travels to Western Kentucky in this game. That’s where their good luck should run out. Both teams have very good defenses and awesome offenses. The difference is that Western Kentucky has played against tougher competition this season. The Hilltoppers started out the season by beating Vanderbilt on the road. They lost to Indiana by only 3 points on the road.
The game against LSU got out of hand. But the Hilltoppers were in that battle at halftime when down 14 to 7. Western Kentucky also beat Marshall 49 to 28 in their last game. Marshall beat Southern Miss 31 to 10 earlier in the season.
Pick: Western Kentucky
