A Closer Look At My College Football Week 4 Five ? Picks
Georgia Tech -9 at Duke
The 22 to 30 loss to Notre Dame as a -2 point road favorite had to have been a huge letdown for Georgia Tech in Week 3. The Yellow Jackets had run over their first 2 opponents by a combined score of 134 to 16. Even after the Irish held G. Tech in check in Week 3, the Yellow Jackets average 377 yards per game on the ground. Duke’s defense allows an average of 93.3 yards per game on the ground. But, Northwestern rushed for 201 yards versus Duke and in last year’s game Georgia Tech rushed for 282 yards and a 6.1 average. Expect the Yellow Jacket defense to be much tougher in this year’s matchup.
Pick: Georgia Tech -9
Florida International at -14.5 Louisiana Tech
Florida International is actually 2 and 1 on the season. The Golden Panthers beat UCF 15 to 14 as a +10.5 point dog in Week 2 before losing to Indiana 22 to 36 as a +7.5 point dog. In Week 3, Florida International drubbed North Carolina Central, an F-IAA squad, 39 to 14 as a -21 point favorite. Louisiana Tech is much better than any of those teams. The Bulldogs have beaten Southern 65 to 15, lost to Western Kentucky 38 to 41 and lost to Kansas State on the road 33 to 39 as a 10 point dog so far this season.
Pick: Louisiana Tech -14.5
No. 22 Oklahoma State at +3 Texas
Not only should Texas not be a dog in this home battle versus Oklahoma State, the betting line should be reversed. Oklahoma State’s defense is good but it hasn’t faced a QB like Longhorn freshman Jerrod Heard yet this season. Heard was sensational when bringing Texas all the way back to a cover victory over California in Week 3. Heard rushed for an awesome 163 yards on 24 carries. He ran for 3 touchdowns. He also passed for 364 yards. Texas lost 44 to 45 to Cal as a +5.5 point home dog.
Pick: Texas +3
No. 14 Texas A&M -7 at Arkansas
Maybe, Bret Beilema should have stayed at Wisconsin. He got Arkansas to play very tough towards the end of last season. So far this season, the Razorbacks have played like crap. Arkansas is 1 and 2 straight up after losing 12 to 16 to Toledo in Week 2 and losing 24 to 35 to Texas Tech in Week 3. Texas A&M’s offense has looked great this season while the defense is much improved. The Aggies should roll.
Pick: Texas A&M -7
No. 18 USC -5.5 at Arizona State
Arizona State’s defense finally stepped it up versus the University of New Mexico when holding the Lobos to only 10 points in Week 3. But this week, they face an angry, bitter team, in USC. The Trojans know that they should have beaten Stanford. QB Cody Kessler hasn’t thrown a pick. He’s going to burn ASU’s blitz happy defense in this matchup.
Pick: USC -5.5
