College Football Week 5 Five ? Lock Picks

Can Florida bounce back after a tough loss to Tennessee against always dangerous Vanderbilt? Will Miami continue to impress while taking on Georgia Tech on the road? What will happen when ranked Tennessee takes on ranked Georgia in Athens?

#23 Florida at Vanderbilt
When:  Saturday, Oct. 1 at 12:00 pm ET
Where: Vanderbilt Stadium, Nashville, TN
TV: SEC Net
Odds: Florida -8.5

Analysis: In their first road game of the season, Florida took on rival Tennessee in Knoxville in Week 4. The Gators ran out to a 21 to 3 half-time lead. It was all for naught as the Volunteers stormed back in the second half for a stunning 38 to 28 win.

Florida shouldn’t lose any lead they build against Vanderbilt on Oct. 1. Vandy is 2 and 2 straight up and against the spread after stunning Western Kentucky 31 to 30 as a close to +9.5 road dog in Week 4. Vanderbilt’s a decent team. But Florida has the better players on both sides of the ball.

I think the Gators get it done this Saturday.

Pick: Florida -8.5

#14 Miami at Georgia Tech
When:  Saturday, Oct. 1 at 12:00 pm ET
Where: Bobby Dodd Stadium, Atlanta, GA
TV: ESPN 2
Odds: Miami -6.5

Analysis: Miami proved that they were a top team in Week 3 when dominating Appalachian State 45 to 10 as a -4.5 road favorite. Appalachian State is a good team. If the Hurricanes weren’t much better this season than last season, the game versus App State would have been much closer.

Miami gets to beat up on Georgia Tech in Week 5. The Yellow Jackets played a spirited contest against Clemson in Week 4 when losing 7 to 26. But Miami poses a serious threat.

Miami’s offense is working like a Swiss watch right now. The defense is so much better than last season. Everybody is playing with heart this season as opposed to last season. It’s hard to see Miami bowing to the Yellow Jackets in this matchup. I think they cover the 6.5-point spread.

Pick: Miami -6.5

#11 Tennessee at #25 Georgia
When:  Saturday, Oct. 1 at 3:30 pm ET
Where: Sanford Stadium, Athens, GA
TV: TBD
Odds: Tennessee -3

Analysis: Tennessee spotted leads to both Virginia Tech and Florida only to come back in the second half of each one of those games to win outright and cover the spread. The Vols are playing with fire. Eventually, they’re going to run into a team that’s just going to beat them silly from the beginning of the game to the end of the game.

The Georgia Bulldogs are not going to be that team. Georgia’s freshman starting quarterback, Jacob Eason, has a ton of talent. But he’s only a freshman. Facing a top SEC team in Ole Miss, Eason folded. The entire Georgia team folded.

Tennessee won’t beat Georgia 45 to 10, at least I don’t believe that they will, but they could definitely rock Georgia to a 30 to 10 score. The Volunteers are better than Georgia, a team that has been winning with smoke and mirrors up until last week when Ole Miss blew away the smoke and broke the mirrors.

Tennessee should roll.

Pick: Tennessee -3
