College Football Week 8 ATS Pics

#22 Temple at Eastern Carolina
When: Thursday, Oct. 22 at 7:00 pm ET
Spread: Eastern Carolina -2.5

Analysis: Temple is undefeated. They’re also a +2.5 dog as of early this week facing Eastern Carolina on the road. Temple is averaging a terrific 33.7 points per game. The Owls have a very good offense.

The Owls should roll in this game simply because East Carolina’s defense is allowing close to 30 points per game while Temple’s is allowing less than 15 per. Temple beats Eastern Carolina in this Thursday night matchup.

Pick: Temple

Iowa State at #2 Baylor
When: Saturday, Oct. 24 at 12:00 pm ET
Spread: Baylor -38

Analysis:  The second ranked Bears are 4 and 1 against the spread this season. They’ve already covered spreads of -33 and -46. What’s really scary for any other team in the Big 12, heck, any other team in college football, is that Baylor has scored over 60 points in 5 straight games.

Baylor’s offense averages 61.7 points and 719.7 yards per game. They’ll have to beat Iowa State by at least 38 to 40 to cover the spread in this game. That shouldn’t be a problem for the best offense in the nation.

Pick: Baylor

Western Kentucky at #5 LSU
When: Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7:00 pm ET
Spread: Baylor -16.5

Analysis: LSU beat Florida 35 to 28 as a -6 point home favorite this past Saturday. Sure, the Tigers won the game, but the LSU defense allowed Treon Harris to throw for 271 yards and 2 touchdowns. Harris is the Gators’ back-up QB.

LSU is favored by over 2 touchdowns against Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers’ QB Brad Doughty averages 407.1 passing yards per game. The Hilltoppers average over 44 points per matchup. Doughty is the best QB that LSU has faced all season.

Pick: Western Kentucky

College Football Week 8 Over Under Picks

Washington State at Arizona
When: Saturday, Oct. 24 at 4:00 pm ET
Game Total: 72

Analysis: Washington State averages 485.3 points per game. The Cougars score 35 points per game. They play against an Arizona defense that is giving up 30.6 points and allowing 425.9 yards per matchup. AZ scores 41.7 points per game.

Last year’s battle between these two yielded 96 points in a 59 to 37 Arizona win. The reason to be very bullish on the over is because Arizona’s defense gave up 37 points to Washington State while Scooby Wright, last year’s Pac 12 defensive player of the year, took to the field. Scooby won’t be on the field this Saturday.

Pick: Over

Wisconsin at Illinois
When: Saturday, Oct. 24 at 3:30 pm ET
Game Total: 44

Analysis: Illinois’ defense is allowing only 19.7 points on defense. Wisconsin’s defense gives up only 10.9 points per. Although Wisconsin has the chance of scoring a lot of points, it’s more likely that the Badgers don’t even hit the 20 point mark in this. Wisconsin is a one-dimensional team on offense.

This should be close to a repeat of the 10 to 9 Wisconsin loss to Iowa earlier this month with the Badgers possibly coming out on top.

Pick: Under

Washington at #10 Stanford
When: Saturday, Oct. 24 at 10:30 pm ET

Analysis: The total should be lower than usual for a Pac 12 game in this one because both Washington and Stanford statistically have decent defenses. Stanford allows an average of 21.7 points per matchup while Washington allows an average of 16.8 points per matchup.

The Cardinal has scored over 40 in four straight games and over 50 points in two straight games. Washington couldn’t stop Oregon’s offense from scoring 26 against it even though the Ducks have had nothing but trouble with their offense since starting Pac 12 play. Stanford should get at least 40 by itself.

Pick: Over

College Football Week 8 Straight Up Money Line Picks

#20 California at UCLA
When: Thursday, Oct. 22 at 9:00 pm ET

Analysis:  As of Monday this week, California is a +3.5 point underdog. If the odds hold, the Golden Bears should be a decent dog on the moneyline.

UCLA’s defense is an absolute mess. The Bruins have given up 30 points, 38 points, and 56 points in their last 3 games. The Golden Bears average 517.7 yards and 40.2 points per game. California should roll to an easy straight up victory in this game.

Pick: California

Kansas State at Texas
When: Saturday, Oct. 24 at 12:00 pm ET
Spread: Texas -4

Analysis:  In beating the Kansas State Wildcats 55 to 0 in a road game this past Saturday, Oklahoma exposed K-State for what it is, a very well coached team that doesn’t have the players to contend against some of the better teams in the Big 12.

The Longhorns should be able to beat the Wildcats straight up in this matchup as around a -4 point home favorite. Texas’ defense has finally come together while the offense should move the ball with ease against a K-State D that showed some serious holes versus Oklahoma.

Pick: Texas

#23 Duke at Virginia Tech
When: Saturday, Oct. 24 at 3:30 pm ET
Spread: Virginia Tech -2.5

Analysis: In this ACC battle, you’ve got a ranked team facing an unranked team on the road as a less than 3 point dog. The Hokies have lost 2 out of their last 3 games including dropping 2 of those games at home. One loss was to Eastern Carolina and the other was to Miami.

Duke is better than both of those teams. The Blue Devils’ offense averages 31.5 points and over 410 yards per matchup. The Duke defense allows less than 10 points per game and less than 253 yards per game. Duke should have no trouble rolling to an easy victory in this one.

Pick: Duke
