A Closer Look At My College Football Week 8 Five ? Lock Picks
Virginia at North Carolina
When: Saturday, Oct. 24 at 3:30 pm ET
Odds: North Carolina -18.5
Analysis: Virginia hasn’t played well this season. The Cavaliers lost to Notre Dame in a game that appeared that they had in the bag 27 to 34 in Week 2. Since the loss, Virginia has fallen apart.
A 44 to 38 win over Syracuse in their last was nice, but the Cavaliers face one of the better teams in the ACC on Saturday. North Carolina has won 5 straight since losing to South Carolina in Week 1. The Tar Heels are 4 and 1 against the spread during that time. They’ve beaten Illinois 48 to 14, Georgia Tech 38 to 31 and Wake Forest 50 to 14.
North Carolina is averaging 482.2 yards and 40.5 points per game. The defense is yielding an average of only 17.3 points per game. The Tar Heels have a good chance of winning the ACC this season. They won’t take the foot off the gas pedal against a Virginia team that just doesn’t have the ability to keep up on the scoreboard.
Pick: North Carolina -18.5
#9 Florida State at Georgia Tech
When: Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7:00pm ET
Odds: Florida State -5
Analysis: After outscoring Alcorn State and Tulane 134 to 16 in their first two games of the season, the Ramblin’ Wreck has become a wreck of a football program. Georgia Tech has lost 5 straight games. The Yellow Jackets are also 0 and 5 ATS in those 5 games.
How bad has it been for Georgia Tech? They couldn’t beat Duke as a 7.5 point road favorite. They couldn’t beat North Carolina as a -6.5 point home favorite. Clemson destroyed Georgia Tech 43 to 24. Pitt beat Georgia Tech 31 to 28 even though Pitt was a +3 point road dog in the game.
Georgia Tech can’t buy a win. Florida State isn’t exactly the best covering team in the nation. The Seminoles are only 3 and 3 against the spread. But, G. Tech is having so many issues right now that Florida State should have no trouble winning this game by at least 10 points.
Pick: Florida State -5
Colorado at Oregon State
When: Saturday, Oct. 24 at 10:30 pm ET
Odds: Oregon State -2.5
Analysis: Both Colorado and Oregon State are doormats in the Pac 12. But, Oregon State might have an advantage over Colorado that will give them the upper hand in this ridiculous matchup on Saturday night.
The Beavers have an excellent rushing attack. Oregon State averages over 187 yards per game on the ground. The Buffalos yield a ridiculous 210.6 rushing yards per game on average. Oregon State should have no trouble running up and down the field against Colorado’s terrible defense.
Oregon State’s defense is horrible as well. But, the Beavers have lost to Stanford, Arizona and Washington State in their last 3 games. All three of those teams have excellent, high-powered offenses. It’s going to be a lot easier for Oregon State’s D to deal with Colorado’s offense on Saturday night.
Pick: Oregon State -2.5
