College Football Week 8 Upset Picks

With four more unbeaten teams losing for the first time in the NCAAF week 7 college football odds and several matchups between highly-rated opponents, there were plenty of betting upsets. Don’t let that discourage you because here are my week 8 college football upset picks.

Now, let’s get started with an intriguing Big 12 matchup featuring two, nationally-ranked Big 12 ballclubs.

College Football Week 8 Upset Picks

No. 14 Kansas State at No. 11 Oklahoma
When:  Saturday, October 18, 2014
Where: Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, Norman, Oklahoma
Kickoff: 12:00 PM ET
TV: ESPN
Spread: Oklahoma -9.5

Analysis: I like Oklahoma State a lot and they’ve cashed in for me several times this season, but I’m backing K-State in this one for several reasons. First and foremost, Oklahoma’s defense is not nearly as good as I – or anyone else – though earlier this season.

The Sooners have given up 26 points or more in each of the last three weeks, while Kansas State has gone ‘loco’ in lighting up both, UTEP and Texas Tech the last two weeks.

Besides, if you saw the Sooners struggle to put away mediocre Texas on Saturday, then you should already know that K-State has a chance to not only cover the spread, but win outright, just like they did in 2012.

The Kansas State Wildcats are 19-6-1 ATS in their L/26 games against a team with a winning record and a blistering 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 road games.

The Wildcats are also 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven road games against Oklahoma while the underdog in this Big 12 rivalry has gone 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 meetings.

Last but not least, the road team in this series is a perfect 5-0 ATS in their last 5 meetings.

My Pick: Kansas State +9.5 Points

No. 21 Texas A&M at No. 7 Alabama
When: Saturday, October 18, 2014
Where: Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, Alabama
Kickoff: 3:30 PM ET
TV: CBS
Spread: Alabama -12.5

Analysis: Texas A&M hasn’t looked good in getting pounded in each of their last two games, but don’t think Alabama has looked much better which is why I’m going to urge you to back Kenny Hill and the Aggies in this Week 8 SEC showdown.

Texas A&M lost to now, No. 2 Mississippi 35-20 on Saturday, but Alabama narrowly squeaked past a game Arkansas team 14-13 on Saturday just one week after suffering their first loss of the season.

I like the fact that A&M has gone 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games following a double-digit home loss and believe they have a chance to beat Alabama outright even if the odds suggest otherwise.

The Crimson Tide are 1-4 ATS in their last five conference games, a dismal 1-4-1 ATS in their last half-dozen home games and a discouraging 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall.

My Pick: Texas A&M +12.5 Points

Rutgers at No. 13 Ohio State
When: Saturday, October 18, 2014
Where: Ohio Stadium, Columbus, Ohio
Kickoff: 3:30 PM ET,
TV: ESPN2
Spread: Ohio State -19

Analysis: While I’m not prepared to pick Rutgers to win this game outright, I do like the Scarlet Knights to cover the nearly three-touchdown spread against an Ohio State team that hasn’t really impressed me much at all in beating Kent State, Cincinnati and Maryland in each of their last three games.

Rutgers has gone 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall and a consistent 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 road games against a team with a winning home record.

Not only are the Scarlet Knights an impressive 15-7-1 ATS in their last 23 games against a team with a winning record, but the Ohio State Buckeyes are just 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following an SU win and a winless 0-4 ATS in their last four home games versus a team with a winning road record. I like Rutgers’ mostly Top 50 defense to keep it closer than expected until the very end!

My Pick: Rutgers +19 Points
