The Cyclones are having a difficult year comparing to years passed as they lost a few players to last season’s draft and the injury bug has really taking a toll on them, they are coming out of their worst loss in the last 8 seasons as Baylor crushed them 71 to 7. The Cowboys are back in the top 20 ranking after a great showing against Kansas State and TCU but they are really holding on to that because of the Louisville lose last Friday, if they lose this game they won’t be part of the ranked teams anymore. I like the way the Cyclones and Cowboys matchup on paper, it seems that they might complement each other very well.
(19) Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Iowa State Cyclones
12:00 PM ET, October 26, 2013
Jack Trice Stadium, AMES, IA
Iowa State has lost their last three games but all have come at the hands of ranked opponents, they seem to have issues covering the middle of the field as they are limping on backup linebackers and safeties to control that area. The way the Cowboys offense plays is actually very straight forward, they look to pass 75% of the time and 50% of that is to the sideline looking to hit the seam , meaning that they look for the big plays until they are in a third down situation and have to go small. A few good stops on third a long, they will stay in this one.
Oklahoma State knows that teams know how their offense works but the fact that it’s so fast and accurate makes it that much harder to stop or even plan against, if you miss one step on your coverage, it s 6 points almost for sure. Opposing defense really have to be on their toes ready for anything. I expect the Cowboys to move the ball well over the middle but find problems converting the short third downs against a powerful defensive line like the one the Cyclones have.
What to Expect:
This will not be a very fun game to watch because you´ll know what they are going to do before they do it; the only difference is the outcome. The Cowboys are -14.5 in this game because of the secondary issues for Iowa State´s defense and their lack of offensive mobility. I think it will be close for the first half but the adjustment s will be made by Oklahoma State and they will pull away in the end, covering that spread.
