Expert Picks College Football Week 6
Texas at Oklahoma
When: Saturday, Oct. 6 at 12:00 pm ET
Where: Cotton Bowl, Dallas, TX
Odds: Oklahoma -7.5
Analysis: In Week 5, the Oklahoma Sooners finally got back on track. Oklahoma is undefeated straight up, but they had lost 3 straight against the spread. One of the ATS losses, a 28-21 overtime win over Army, had occurred with the Sooners a -30 favorite.
Oklahoma entered their game with Baylor a -21.5 favorite. The Sooners beat Baylor 66-33 to easily squash the spread. Things could be tougher for Oklahoma on Saturday, though, because Texas is on their own mini-roll.
The Longhorns have won 3 straight after losing 29-34 to Maryland in Week 1. No team has scored more than 21 points against Texas’ defense during the winning streak. Texas should have some success keeping Oklahoma’s offense in check.
7.5 points is a lot to give in the Red River Rivalry. I’ll go with the Longhorns.
LSU at Florida
When: Saturday, Oct. 6 at 3:30 pm ET
Where: Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville, FL
Odds: LSU -2.5
Analysis: Both LSU and Florida have played well in recent weeks. LSU’s on a 5-game winning streak while Florida’s won 3 in a row after a loss to ranked Kentucky. The Gators and Tigers have played some magical games in the past.
This one shouldn’t be as magical because LSU’s defense allows 15 points per game and only 333.8 total yards. The Bayou Tigers should beat Florida and cover the spread. My thinking is that LSU’s defense is too tough for Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks to break down.
I’m backing LSU.
Pick: LSU -3.5
Notre Dame at Virginia Tech
When: Saturday, Oct. 6 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Lane Stadium, Blacksburg, VA
Odds: Notre Dame -5
Analysis: Notre Dame pummeled #7 Stanford 38-17 to bring their record to 5-0 on the season. However, the win might have come at a huge cost.
Notre Dame offensive lineman Alex Bars is out for the season after suffering a knee injury in the win over Stanford. The Irish could have trouble opening holes for their running back against a tough Virginia Tech Hokies’ squad.
VA Tech beat ranked Duke 31-14. The Hokies could upset Note Dame on the money line in Week 6.
Pick: Virginia Tech
