The college football oddsmakers have listed the 15th-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets as 2-point favorites when they take their dominant triple-option offensive attack to South Bend to face the No. 9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Both teams are ranked in the top-25 and have their sights set on a berth in the College Football Playoff in the New Year.
While the focus will be on new Fighting Irish quarterback DeShone Kizer, the pressure will be on the Fighting Irish defense. After all, Georgia Tech has the nation’s top-ranked rushing and second-leading scoring offense. The Yellow Jackets have lighting up the scoreboard, but don’t expect them to put up their usual 67 points against the Irish.

Why Bet On No. 14 Georgia Tech (-1.5) to Beat No. 8 Notre Dame
Georgia Tech’s rushing attack could shred the Irish defense.
There are few teams in the history of college football that sport a rushing attack as incredibly effective as Georgia Tech’s. The Yellow Jackets have one of the most powerful rushing games of all time. Paul Johnson, who built Navy’s rushing attack before leaving for Georgia Tech, runs up the score on teams by marching up and down the field.
In their first game of the season, the Yellow Jackets destroyed Alcorn State 69 to 6. Georgia Tech racked up 553 total yards. Out of the 553 total yards, 476 of those yards were acquired via rushing the football. The Yellow Jackets averaged 9.2 yards per carry. In their second game of the season, Georgia Tech beat Tulane 65 to 10. Tulane actually had a better time containing Georgia Tech’s rushing game. The Green Wave was able to hold the Yellow Jackets to 439 yards on the ground and a 7.8 per carry average.

Notre Dame is a much better team than both Alcorn State and Tulane. But if the Georgia Tech rushing game is effective, there isn’t much that Notre Dame is going to be able to do to stop it. The Irish has to hope that G. Tech is having a bad running day.
Why Bet On No. 8 Notre Dame to Beat No. 14 Georgia Tech (-1.5)
Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly is the best at making adjustments.
Brian Kelly, Notre Dame’s head coach, is going to have to make one of the most amazing adjustments that he’s ever made during his coaching career. With QB Malik Zaire, the Irish looked like a College Playoff contender. Now, with Zaire out for the season due to a broken ankle, who knows how far the Irish will go.
Sophomore DeShone Kizer takes over for Zaire under center. Kizer led the Irish to a victory over Virginia after Virginia had taken the lead in Notre Dame’s Week 2 game. Although Kizer isn’t as close to being as talented as Zaire, Kelly figures to switch up some things in order to give Kizer the best chance to be successful.

It’s difficult to see any adjustments having an immediate effect, meaning that Kelly’s team could be in some trouble. Then again, this is Brian Kelly. He spent the entire 2013-2014 College Football Season with his star quarterback, Everett Golson, suspended and lost only 4 games. Kelly got his team to beat Rutgers 29 to 16 in a bowl game.
My Georgia Tech Vs Notre Dame Final Score Prediction
Kelly is likely to simplify the offense for Kizer. A lot of short passes and runs should help Notre Dame control the clock and keep the ball out of the hands of the Georgia Tech offense. I am picking the Fighting Irish to win straight up and the Under-54.5. My final score prediction is Notre Dame 24, Georgia Tech 16
