How To Bet The Arizona State Vs Utah 7-Point SpreadJosh Bailey
Utah has climbed its way into the Top 5 in the polls. Utah has emerged, along with Stanford, as a top team in the Pac 12 Conference. Without a doubt, Utah is the top team in the Pac 12 Conference South Division.
But, the Utes face a very good team in Arizona State on Saturday. Since losing 14 to 42 to USC three games ago, Arizona State has been excellent. The Sun Devils dominated UCLA 38 to 23 on the road as a +12.5 point dog. They polished off Colorado 48 to 23 as a -16.5 point home favorite in their last. Can ASU pull off the upset over the highly favorited Utes on Oct. 17?

Why Bet On Arizona State to Beat #4 Utah (-7)
The Sun Devils have turned their season around after a sluggish start and have the kind of defense that may stymie the Utes’ rushing attack.
Arizona State didn’t look very good in its first 4 games of the season. The Sun Devils managed to beat Cal-Poly Slo 35 to 31 and beat the University of Mexico 34 to 10, but the team just appeared off. USC drubbed ASU while Texas A&M made ASU look silly in a 38 to 17 beat down. The Texas A&M loss was the Sun Devils’ first game of the season while ASU was ranked fifteenth in the nation.
It appears that ASU has turned it around. The real reason for the turnaround, why ASU beat UCLA on the road as an example, is due to ASU’s defensive line play and more conservative blitz packages. In other words, ASU is only sending the house when they believe that they have an advantage.

The ASU defense matches up well with Utah’s offense. Utah has the ability to put up a lot of points. But, the Utes are more conservative than some of the offenses that ASU has faced this season. Utah only passes on passing downs. The Utes’ offensive system revolves around rushing the football. That’s why Utah averages 216 rushing yards per game. What ASU can do defensively is sit in a zone defense and play the rush with their front 7 until passing downs. That’s when the Sun Devils can put together their terrific blitz packages.
Why Bet On #4 Utah (-7) to Beat Arizona State
Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham (+350) is the favorite to be the next full time coach at Southern California (USC).
The real reason why Utah is undefeated is because of their excellent defense. The offense isn’t bad, but it plays off of Utah’s fantastic defense. The offense won’t push things unless the defense is in trouble.
So far, Utah’s defense has been terrific. No team has scored more than 24 points against Utah’s D this season. This includes holding California, one of the top offenses in the nation, to 24 points in a 31 to 24 Utah win in the Utes’ last game.
California averages 40 points per game. The fact that Utah held the Golden Bears to below their average on the scoreboard is a huge testament to how well the D is playing. Even more impressive is the fact that Utah forced California QB Jared Goff into 5 interceptions. Goff was a Heisman Trophy candidate before playing the Utes. He isn’t any more.

ASU has a chance to keep this close. But, Utah will win the game. The Utes will force ASU QB Mike Bercovici into at least 2 interceptions on Saturday. Utah will pull away at the end. My final score prediction is Utah 31, ASU 26.
