Iowa Hawkeyes at Nebraska Cornhuskers Spread, My ATS Pick & Betting Tips

How To Bet Iowa Vs Northwestern College Football Week 7 Odds

It’s crazy how one Saturday afternoon can change things. To begin last Saturday, Northwestern was ranked in the Top 15. They had a chance to make a huge statement with a win against Michigan in Ann Arbor. Iowa was ranked twenty-second and still considered a team that might not have what it takes to win the Big Ten.

Iowa beat Illinois 29 to 20 and jumped up to seventeenth in the rankings. Northwestern dropped a game 0 to 38 to Michigan and fell out of the Top 25 altogether. Iowa travels to Northwestern as a 3 point favorite for a key game in the Big Ten Conference. Will Iowa keep it going or will Northwestern bounce back?

Why Bet On #17 Iowa (-3) to Beat Northwestern

Iowa RB Jordan Canzeri is the B1G offensive player of the week.

The Hawkeyes are a pretty incredible team. They’ve won shootouts this season as well as drag out defensive games. Against Wisconsin, Iowa had every right to fold since they were 5 point dogs on the road. The Hawkeyes played the game that Wisconsin wanted to play, a slow, ball control game. Iowa beat the Badgers 10 to 6.

Versus Illinois, Iowa had to play an entirely different type of game. The Illini wanted to run and gun and put up points. Illinois played fast. Iowa acquiesced and scored 29 points in a 29 to 20 game. The ability to play at any speed on offense is a huge strength for the Hawkeyes.

Iowa can pass the ball, they average 208 passing yards per game. Or, the Hawkeyes can run with the football, they average 201 yards on the ground per game. If you decide to take away the Hawkeyes rush, they might decide to pass it. Or, they might decide to continue to rush it. Iowa racked up 144 total yards on the ground by rushing for 3.6 yards per carry.

Iowa’s ability to change speeds at will on offense gives them an advantage over Northwestern in this matchup.

Why Bet On Northwestern to Beat #17 Iowa (-3)

Northwestern starting CB Matthew Harris is out for the “foreseeable future” after suffering several fractures in his face at Michigan

Northwestern can’t be that bad, can they?  The Wildcats went into Ann Arbor with an undefeated record. The team had beaten Stanford, one of the better teams in the Pac 12, Duke, a very good ACC team, and Minnesota, a team with a decent defense. Northwestern looked for real.

Michigan obliterated the Wildcats. The Wolverines put up 38 points to Northwestern’s 0. They dominated the Wildcats in every phase of the game. Believe it or not, that’s where Northwestern’s hopes against Iowa lie.

Northwestern just isn’t as bad as the 0 to 38 score implies. 7 of the 38 points came via an kick-ff return. 7 of the 38 points came via an interception returned for a touchdown. And, Northwestern’s offense just couldn’t get anything going, which put the defense into some very precarious situations.

Northwestern will be much tougher to beat at home. The Wildcats have enough talent to win this game straight up, which is why the point spread is at 3. But, Iowa can adjust to anything that Northwestern does on defense. Iowa has the ability to beat the Wildcats in a fast or slow game. That will be the difference. My final score prediction is Iowa 17, Northwestern 14.
