Nobody thought that Michigan State versus Michigan would be one of the key games in the Big 10 Conference. Last season, Michigan State was all the rage while Michigan was an also-ran.
But, a key coaching hire in Ann Arbor has almost flipped the script. While Michigan State is undefeated, it’s Michigan that has become all the rage. Michigan State continues to win football games, but they also continue to move down the rankings. Michigan lost to Utah in Week 1, but has since moved their way into the Top 15 in the rankings. The game this Saturday is going to determine which team really is the one to challenge Ohio State for supremacy in the Big Ten.

Why Bet On #7 Michigan State to Beat #12 Michigan (-7.5)
MSU has won six of seven against the Wolverines since 2008.
What’s been obvious during Michigan’s run of 3 straight games without allowing a point on defense is that the Wolverines’ have played against bad offenses. There is no doubt that along with Alabama’s defense, Michigan has one of the top 2 units in the nation.
But, holding BYU, Maryland and Northwestern to 0 points is much different than holding Michigan State to 0 points. Michigan State has a senior quarterback in Connor Cook who has found a legitimate go to the house weapon in wide receiver Aaron Burbridge. Burbridge didn’t have great games versus Central Michigan and Purdue, but he exploded for 146 yards off of 9 catches against Rutgers. Cook threw for 357 yards in that game.
When Michigan State isn’t relying on Cook to Burbridge, they’re rushing the football with LJ Scott. Scott is starting to get his feet underneath him. He rushed for close to 150 yards against Purdue. Michigan State’s ability to both run and pass might allow them to put points up against the stingiest defense in college football this Saturday.

Why Bet On #12 Michigan (-7.5) to Beat #7 Michigan State
The Wolverines are now 10-1 to win the national title. Only three other teams have better odds.
Not only has the Wolverines’ defense turned into a top unit in college football, but the offense has as well. Michigan is now averaging 29.5 points and 290.5 yards per game. The Wolverines rush for 201.3 yards per matchup. Coach Jim Harbaugh took RB De’Veon Smith off of the injury report for the week.
That has to make Wolverine fans jump for joy. Smith is an awesome running back. He averaged 7.8 yards per rush against BYU and 7.4 yards per rush against Northwestern. When Smith gets it going, he can dominate and the Wolverines can start passing the football.
Smith and the Michigan offense go up against a defense that’s allowing 372.2 yards per game on average. Michigan’s offense should have no trouble moving the ball. Although Cook’s experience will keep Michigan State in this game for a while, the Wolverines figure to break it open in the third quarter. My final score prediction is Michigan 36, Michigan State 17.
