No. 6 Auburn (1-0 SU, 0-1 ATS) moved to 2-0 on the season by taking down tiny Jacksonville State in Week 2, but the Tigers largely struggled in the narrow 27-20 overtime win.
Auburn avoided one of the biggest upsets in program history by getting a game-saving touchdown grab in the final minute and a game-clinching touchdown run in overtime
Wide receiver Melvin Ray made a leaping 10-yard catch in the right corner of the end zone with less than 1 minute remaining in regulation to save the Tigers before running back Peyton Barber scored in overtime to finish off the Gamecocks.
"Coach always said we were gonna find a way to win, and Melvin went up and made a great play," said quarterback Jeremy Johnson.
Making his first start at tailback, Barber, rushed the ball 23 times for 125 yards and one score while Johnson completed 21 of 32 passes for 236 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
After the unexpected thriller, Barber said he always believe his team would in.
"That’s one thing I was always saying, was that we cannot lose to this team," Barber said.
"A lot of times in the course of a season it’s how you win," Malzahn said. "Today we faced major adversity and we faced major adversity at home."
No. 14 LSU (1-0 SU, 0-1 ATS) kicked off its regular season last weekend by recording a narrow 21-19 win over No. 25 Mississippi State, though the Tigers failed to cover the spread as 3.5-point road favorites.
LSU was carried to victory mostly because of the rushing of running back Leonard Fournette as the 230-pound bruising back rushed 28 times for 159 yards with three touchdowns, including the game-winner.
"(Fournette’s) a humble man, he works hard at his trade and he’s a fine teammate," LSU head coach Les Miles said. "Those are easy guys to push the ball to."
LSU led 21-6 early in the fourth quarter, but Heisman Trophy candidate Dak Prescott got Mississippi State’s offense rolling to score 13 consecutive points.
The Bulldogs actually had a chance to win the game outright but kicker Devon Bell missed a 52-yard field goal with no time remaining. The Tigers were aided by a costly delay of game penalty during Mississippi State’s final drive that made Bell’s field goal attempt five yards longer.

Betting Analysis: 56 percent of the betting public likes LSU to cover the spread and I say that is the right pick for this Week 3 SEC showdown, seeing as how Auburn almost lost to a Jacksonville State team that probably has one D-I player on their roster the last time out.
The home team in this longstanding SEC rivalry has gone 5-1 ATS in their last six meetings while the favorite is 5-2 ATS in their last seven meetings. Auburn is 0-5 ATS in its last five games and quarterback Jeremy Johnson has thrown five interceptions in two games.
I am picking LSU (-7.5) as the smart bet over Auburn and the Over-49.5. My final score prediction is Auburn 24, LSU 27.
