How To Bet The Penn State Vs Ohio State OddsJosh Bailey
Ohio State remains number one atop the polls even though the defending champions haven’t played like defending champions this season. Ohio State has covered only a single college football betting spread in 5 games this season.
What has to be worrisome is how the number one team in the nation is giving up points on a weekly basis to teams like Indiana and Maryland. Indiana scored 27 against Ohio State while Maryland scored 28 versus Ohio State. Penn State has won 5 in a row after a loss to Temple in their first game of the season. Will the Nittany Lions keep it going versus the heavily favored Buckeyes?

Why Bet On Penn State to Beat #1 Ohio State (-17)
Penn State’s offense win’s ugly games.
The Nittany Lions were embarrassed in their first game of the season against the Temple Owls. But in hindsight, Penn State didn’t play all that badly. The Nittany Lions held the Owls to 27 points and 317 total yards. Temple is undefeated and has gone 4 and 1 ATS in their last 5 games. The Owls are knocking on the door for a Top 25 ranking.
Since the loss to Temple, Penn State’s defense has been brilliant. The Nittany Lions’ D held Buffalo to 14 points, high-scoring Rutgers to 3 points, San Diego State to 21 and Army to 14. In their last game against an Indiana team that put up 27 against Ohio State, Penn State locked down the Hoosiers for only 234 total yards and 7 points.
Penn State allows an average of 275.5 yards per matchup ranking it tenth in total yards allowed per game. Opponents average only 14.3 points against the Nittany Lions defense. If Penn State’s defense is on top of its game on Saturday, the unranked Nittany Lions will have a chance to upset Ohio State straight up in this game.
Why Bet On #1 Ohio State (-17) to Beat Penn State
Rusher Ezekiel Elliot is gunning for his 12th-consecutive 100 yard game…and he’s not even their top offensive option.
For this entire season, Ohio State has been trying to figure out its quarterback situation. QB Cardale Jones hasn’t looked nearly as effective as he was when leading the Buckeyes’ to a National Championship title. Last year’s starting QB until injury, J.T. Barrett, hasn’t been all that effective either.
Now it appears that Coach Urban Meyer is going to utilize a strange 2-QB System where Jones plays until the Buckeyes get into the red zone in which case Barrett will come in and either pass for short yardage or run for short yardage and try and score touchdowns. The system worked well against Maryland as Ohio State racked up 499 total yards and scored 49 points.
But that sort of offense may not work as well against Penn State. The Terrapins allow an average of 457.7 yards and 34.7 points per game. Bowling Green scored 27 against Maryland and West Virginia scored 45. Putting points up against Maryland is not a great feat.
Ohio State has been playing down to its competition all season long. The Buckeyes might pull out another victory, but Penn State’s defense is very good. Expect Ohio State fans to be sitting on the edge of their seats in this matchup. The Nittany Lions will make it close. My final score prediction is Ohio State 24, Penn State 21.
