The Michigan State Spartans (4-1 SU, 3-2 ATS) have won three straight games, including their narrow 27-22 win over previously unbeaten Nebraska on Saturday. The Spartans did however, see their modest two-game ATS winning streak come to an abrupt halt in the loss as they failed to cover the spread as a 6.5-point home fave.

The Spartans nearly gave up a huge comeback, but picked off Nebraska quarterback Tommy Armstrong with 30 seconds remaining to preserve the win.

Purdue (3-3 SU, 4-2 ATS) has won two of its last three games, including a convincing 38-27 Week 6 win over Illinois to narrowly cover the spread as a10.5-point road underdog.

The Boilermakers rolled all over the Fighting Illini by rushing for a whopping 349 yards rushing as first-time starting quarterback Austin Appleby tossed one touchdown pass and ran for two more.

If you saw Saturday’s Michigan State game like I did, then you can’t be all that impressed with the Spartans…or should I say…at least I’m not.

Sure, I know Purdue has its share of problems, but I also believe the Boilermakers are going to be a better team for the remainder of the season because of the elevation of Appleby at quarterback.

Having said that, I’m also going to urge you to back the Boilermakers to cover the spread as hopping three-touchdown dogs in this one. While Michigan State has won five straight in this Big Ten series, none of the wins have come by more than 14 points, with three of them coming by four points or less.

The Boilermakers are 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games while the Underdog in this rivalry has gone 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight meetings.

I also don’t think Michigan State’s offense is potent enough to win this game by three touchdowns.

Back the Boilermakers and call it a day!
