What Is The Iowa Vs Michigan State Spread?

Michigan State Hosts Iowa With Both Teams Looking to Rebound in Week 5 Big Ten Battle

The Iowa Hawkeyes and Michigan State Spartans will both be looking to rebound from their respective Week 4 losses when they take to the gridiron at Spartan Stadium for their Week 4 Big Ten battle between one-loss teams.

The Las Vegas college football odds makers have the spread at 3.5-points in favor of FSU. With both teams still clinging to their conference championship hopes, let’s find out which one of these title hopefuls will see their chances of winning this year’s Big ten title take a big hit.

Iowa Vs Michigan State Week 5 Spread & ATS Pick

Iowa Hawkeyes (3-1) at Michigan State Spartans (2-1)
When: Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 4:00 PM ET
Where: Spartan Stadium
TV: FOX
Stream: Fox Sports Go
Spread: Michigan State Spartans -3.5
Total: 45

Why Bet the Iowa Hawkeyes Spread at +3.5

The Hawkeyes put forth a great effort but ended up on suffering an absolutely heartbreaking 21-19 loss to No. 4 Penn State that came on the game’s final play, even though Iowa easily covered the spread as 13-point home dogs just as I predicted. Quarterback Nate Stanley complete 13 of 22 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns and running back Akrum Wadley rushed 19 times for 80 yards and another touchdown, but the Hawkeyes couldn’t stop Penn State’s Trace McSorley from connecting with wide receiver Juwan Johnson on a 7-yard TD strike as time expired. For the season, Stanley is completing a solid 61.0 percent of his passes for 846 yards with 12 touchdowns and just one interception. Defensively, Iowa is limiting the opposition to just 19.8 points per game.

Why Bet the Michigan State Spartans Spread at -3.5

The Spartans got smacked around by Notre Dame in their 38-18 loss last Saturday as quarterback Brian Lewerke completed a modest 31 of 51 pass attempts for 340 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Unfortunately, Michigan State couldn’t overcome three total turnovers in the loss despite beating the Irish in almost every other statistical category.

For the season, Lewerke is completing 62.9 percent of his passes for 751 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions while running back L.J. Scott has rushed for a modest 186 yards and just one touchdown on 44 carries. Defensively, Michigan State is allowing a respectable 20.7 points per game.

Iowa Vs Michigan State ATS Pick

Michigan State has won two straight in this series and three of four overall, but for me, the Iowa Hawkeyes are the pick to cover the spread by getting the outright win. Iowa has the better starting quarterback, running back and defense.

The Hawkeyes are a robust 17-6 ATS in their last 23 road games and an unblemished 4-0 ATS in their last 4 conference games while Michigan State has gone 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games in the month of September and 2-6-1 ATS in their L/9 games against a team with a winning record.

Last but not least, Iowa is also 4-1 ATS in their last five road dates against Michigan State and a consistent 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 meetings against the Spartans overall. The road team has won the last four meetings in this series and you should expect that to happen again in this affair.

Pick: Iowa +3.5
