The Louisiana Tech at No. 24 Marshall Conference USA Championship odds are out and Marshall is a heavy, close to two touchdown favorite.
Marshall wanted to go into the Conference USA Championship being undefeated, but a 67 to 66 loss to Western Kentucky, as a -23.5 point favorite, has ended Marshall’s dream at securing a top bowl bid. Marshall could help its cause, however, by beating Louisiana Tech by way more than the betting spread.

Analyzing The Louisiana Tech at No. 24 Marshall Conference USA Championship Odds
As soon as Marshall is ranked, it drops a game to Western Kentucky as a huge favorite. Football handicappers probably should have seen this one coming. Marshall had trouble beating Alabama
Birmingham the game before the Western Kentucky loss as a -17.5 point road favorite. The Blazers held Marshall to 23 points in an 18 to 23 loss.
Marshall’s offense is still one of the best in the nation. It averages 574.6 yards and 46.7 points per game. The offense has scored 40 or more points in 10 out of Marshall’s 12 games. The problem for the Thundering Herd is that their defense can be really bad at times like when it was when allowing Western Kentucky to score 67 against it last Saturday.

Does Louisiana Tech have the offense to match Marshall’s? It might. The Bulldogs average 415.2 yards and 38.8 points per game. LA Tech scored 76 points against Rice in a 76 to 31 blow-out victory last Saturday. The Bulldogs also beat Alabama-Birmingham 40 to 24 as a -5.5 point favorite three games ago and they’ve covered in 4 out of their last 5 games while Marshall has gone 0 and 2 against the spread in their last 2 contests.
Defensively, Louisiana Tech needs only contain Marshall if its offense is playing well. The big advantage that the LA Tech defense, which allows less than 350 yards and roughly 25 points per game, has going for it is that Marshall’s offense has never seen the Bulldogs’ defense. This is the first time that these two teams are playing each other. The Bulldogs could get creative on defense and see what works and what doesn’t.
The college football betting trends favor neither team in this contest as Marshall is 10 and 2 against the spread in their last 2 home games, 8 and 2 against the spread versus a team with a winning record, and 5 and 1 against the spread in their last 6 games following an ATS loss. Louisiana Tech is 4 and 1 against the spread in their last 5 conference games, 5 and 0 against the spread in their last 5 after accumulating more than 280 passing yards in their previous game and 20 and 7 against the spread in their last 20 road games.
This game literally comes down to the betting spread. A lot of sports books have taken the game off, but there doesn’t appear to be a real reason why. Marshall, if anything, might be favored by more than the 13.5 points by kick-off on Saturday. They may be a better team than Louisiana Tech but right now they aren’t playing like a better team.
The Bulldogs are the team to back. The points are just too many to give up in this game.
Pick: Louisiana Tech +13.5
