Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, LOUISVILLE, KY
Coverage: ESPN/Watch ESPN
This will be an AAC rivalry game that could drastically change the panorama of the standings, the Cardinals site in first place undefeated 5-0 while the Scarlet Knights have a loss to their name. Both are 1-0 in conference play and an upset here for Rutgers could boost them into the top 25 rankings as well as the division so their s a lot riding on this game. This will be a passing offense against a running game at a time that both are feeling on top of their game. The edge goes to Louisville because of their harder schedule as well as the fact that they are playing at home.
Rutgers come into this game with the top running game in the AAC, Paul James leads his Scarlet Knights in their ground attack with 78 carries for 573 yards and 6 touchdowns while QB Gary Nova has completed 64 of 109 passes for 888 yards and 9 scores. In order for the Scarlet Knights to pull this win off they are going to need their A game from their defense, most of all their secondary and corners, Louisville is a high throwing team that looks to burn their opponents at the first chance they get.
The Cardinals have grown accustom to this high flying sling the ball offensive style that has hurt them as many times as it has helped them. QB Teddy Bridgewater has completed 79 of his 110 pass attempts for 1214 yards and 14 total touchdowns and his favorite receiver DeVante Parker has really shown his skills catching 19 passes for 331 yards and 6 scores. The Cardinals will have to find a way to stop the Rutgers running game or it will tier their defense out and they will be vulnerable to give up the big runs and get burned over the top.
What to Expect:
Louisville is the favorite in this game but the mindset that Rutgers seem to bring to the field this season has set them apart, they have a great momentum coming into this game and I think they will really match up well against the Cardinals. Look for this to be a high scoring game with the Scarlet Knights scoring on the ground and the Cardinals taking over the air. My opinion in this game is the over, anything up to 57.5 is a good number, expect a touchdown frenzy in this one.
