Louisville improved to a perfect 4-0 by spanking Marshall 59-28 in Week 4 as blossoming superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson threw a whopping five touchdown passes while adding two rushing scores.
Jackson completed 24 of 44 passes for 417 yards while running back Brandon Radcliff rushed 19 times for 131 yards and one score.
For the season, Louisville’s sophomore signal-caller has completed 58.7 percent of his passes for 1330 yards with 13 touchdown passes.
Louisville is ranked first in total offense (682.0 ypg) and first in scoring (63.5 ppg). While Jackson has been at the center of the Cardinals’ offensive improvements, the Cardinals also have a solid, but not overpowering, defense that ranks inside the Top 50 across the board, including 47th in points allowed (20.7 ppg). Still, it is Jackson that makes the Cardinals go.
Clemson remained unbeaten by man-handling Georgia Tech in its 26-7 Week 4 win while covering the college football betting line as a 10.5-point favorite.
Deshaun Watson completed 32 of 48 pass attempts for 304 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while running back Wayne Gallman rushed 17 times for 59 yards and one score and wide receiver Ray Ray McCloud caught eight passes for 101 yards and one touchdown.
Still, I’m not sure I can say the Tigers are firing on all cylinders right now despite their most recent victory. Clemson struggled to put away mediocre Auburn in its 19-13 season-opening win before looking even more pedestrian against Troy in their 30-24 Week 2 win.
Right now, the Tigers are ranked 53rd in scoring (36.0 ppg) but a stellar fifth in points allowed (11.0 ppg).
How To Bet Louisville Vs Clemson
While I picked the Clemson Tigers to get back to this year’s national championship after falling just short a year ago and I’m sticking with that pick, I must admit that Louisville’s
Lamar Jackson scares the hell out of me.
Having said that, let me also say that I believe the Tigers are still the right pick to get the narrow win for two reasons. The Tigers are playing at home in front of their crazed fans and they have an elite defense.
I know Louisville is 4-0 ATS in their last four non-conference games and a perfect 5-0 ATS in their last five games in the month of September, but Clemson is 4-1 ATS in their last five games following an SU win and an encouraging 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a winning record.
The Tigers have won two straight over the Cardinals in narrow fashion and I expect them to make it three in a row by keeping Jackson in check and forcing someone else to beat them.
I love the spread with Clemson being a surprising 1.5-point home dog and I believe Clemson will cover the spread by getting the outright win!
