MAC Championship Game Betting Picks – NIU On Verge of BCS Bid

For the second straight season, Northern Illinois is poised for a BCS Berth and all they have to do to nail down a spot in the Fiesta Bowl is vanquish the Bowling Green Falcons in college football’s MAC Championship Game betting. The Wolfpack have been non-stop fun to watch and bet on, and at 8-4 ATS they’ve been a reasonable profit monster for their backers. This is only the sixth time they’ve been featured in a game that has a single digit spread, and as you’d assume they’re 5-0 SU and ATS in those games which paired them against Toledo, Iowa, Purdue, Kent State and Ball State.

Much of that is due to Heisman candidate Jordan Lynch who is making a mockery of rushing records across the land. Lynch is coming off a 321 rushing yard performance against Western Michigan and that is no accident. It was the second time he rushed for more than three-hundred yards in a game this year and on top of that Lynch is an accomplished passer. He has thrown for 2,457 yards and 22 touchdowns against just 5 interceptions and added a spectacular 1,755 rushing yards and 20 more touchdowns on the ground. He’s a massive reason to back the NIU Wolfpack in MAC Championship game betting because I doubt that Bowling Green can stop him.

It’s been ten years since Bowling Green won this conference and that streak is probably going to keep going. The Falcons have been a nice outside play in the sportsbook, going 9-3 ATS on the season while remaining 4-0 SU and ATS in the last month of college football. This isn’t a shock to anyone that’s ridden the Falcons throughout the year. They’re a great beating team that is actually 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games overall. The problem? Most of those losses come late in the year. Bowling Green is a troubling 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 December games.

There’s also no telling how solid Bowling Green’s defense is going to be in MAC Championship game betting. They’ve allowed just 4.3 points against over their last four games on average (not a misprint) but have never faced an explosive playmaker like Lynch this season. They are much better at passing defense than anything else. Their rushing defense has allowed 134.8 yards per game and is facing a rampant dynamo this weekend. I’m not so sure they’re up to the task despite that shallow spread.

It’s also worth mentioning that NIU’s overall defense is very sturdy. Only EIU has managed to score more than 30-points against them, and in the past month they’ve allowed a respectable 19.4 points per game in their last five efforts. NIU is simply a solid team overall, which is why they’ve covered so aptly this season against their conference opponents.

If this was the Wolfpack’s first attempt at a BCS bid in recent years, or their first must-win game, I would be a bit more worried against a narrow spread. But it’s not. NIU has been on the rise for the past two seasons.

Lynch has been on fire lately and should continue to build on his tantalizing stats against a suspect rushing defense. Teams have tried to stop Lynch before, and in this conference he has no equal. NIU is all but assured a spot in the Fiesta Bowl as they outrun and outgun the Bowling Green Falcons as mild favorites in MAC Championship game betting, and this is definitely a game worth changing your Friday night plans for.
