The Pittsburgh Panthers will look to hold it down at home and cover the spread when they host the Miami Hurricanes in a Week 13 ACC showdown that gets underway on Friday at Heinz Field. The Canes are no longer a top-tier ACC squad and Pitt has been eliminated from the Coastal Division race. So why is this game important? Both teams are looking for the best possible 2015 college football bowl invitation next month.

Bet The Miami Hurricanes at +6 Because…
Miami (7-4 SU, 6-5 ATS) has won three of its last four games and is coming off a convincing 38-21 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday to easily cash in as a 2.5-point home underdog.
Quarterback Brad Kaaya completed 16 of 25 passes for 300 yards with one touchdown while running back Joseph Yearby added one touchdown run and fellow back Mark Walton, two touchdown runs and one touchdown reception.
"We just try to stay together," said Walton, who now has eight rushing scores in his freshman season. "When we stay together, nobody can beat us."
Defensively, the Hurricanes limited the Yellow Jackets to just 59 passing yards while recording two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
"I hope what they played for was just pride," Miami interim coach Larry Scott said. "Pride, and the commitment they made to each other. As far as playing for coaches, we’re all in this together. Our coaches had to coach with pride, they had to remember the commitment we made to these young people and that’s what it was all about."
Bet The Pittsburgh Panthers at -6 Because…
Pittsburgh (8-3 SU, 6-5 ATS) has won two straight games including their hard-fought 45-34 win over Louisville on Saturday while covering the spread as a 1-point home dog as quarterback Nathan Peterman completed 22 of 34 passes for 232 yards and four touchdowns.
"We’re all preaching to each other, this bunch can do it, this bunch can lead Pitt and bring Pitt back to the top and put Pitt back on the map," junior wide receiver Tyler Boyd said. "We’re pulling it out and it’s amazing to us."
Running back Qadree Olllson rushed 28 times for 152 yards and one score and the Panthers won the time of possession battle by a whopping 15 minutes and 16 seconds.
"You can’t play scared," Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi said. "You’re playing to win; you’re not playing to not lose. That’s our kids’ mentality. They came after (Louisville). That’s what we’re going to do. That’s how we coach."
Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction
61 percent of the betting public likes Pittsburgh to get the win and ATS cover, but I don’t. I’m going to back the Miami Hurricanes to cover the spread and push the Panthers really hard for the outright win.
Miami pulled off impressive upsets this season over Nebraska, Duke and Georgia Tech the last time out and I believe the Canes are going to give the Panthers all they can handle and then some.
Pittsburgh is just 1-4 ATS in their last five home games against a team with a winning road record and a discouraging 1-5 ATS in their last six home games overall. Conversely, Miami has gone 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games after allowing less than 170 passing yards in their previous game and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games after allowing more than 200 rushing yards in their previous game.
More importantly, the Hurricanes are 4-1 ATS in their last five road dates against the Panthers while the road team in this ACC series is a perfect 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings.
I don’t like Miami for the outright win, but they’ll cover the spread with a bit of room to spare!
