Arguably the most highly anticipated game in the Big Ten takes place this Saturday when the No. 3 Buckeyes and No. 13 Spartans meet in another momentous showdown Saturday in Columbus. ESPN’s “College GameDay” will be on hand to make this game oh just so much sweeter. The winner stays alive for the Big Ten East Division title and a College Football Playoff spot. The loser licks its wounds and hopes for luck.

Save for a loss to Nebraska, Michigan State would be in the discussion for a spot in the College Football Playoff. Beating the Buckeyes can get them back into that conversation. The college football week 12 betting line favors Ohio State by 13-points to beat Michigan State. Can the Spartans pull off the win or will the Buckeyes repeat their antics of 2014 and win?

Why Bet On #9 Michigan State to Beat #2 Ohio State (-13)
The Buckeyes are 1-5 ATS at home this season.
Ohio State hasn’t exactly faced the best of the best this season. The Buckeyes only signature win may have been in Week 1 when they took down Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech isn’t even ranked.
Ohio State hasn’t faced a ranked team yet in 2015. The Buckeyes miraculously are ranked in the Top 4 even though they’ve beaten VA Tech, Hawaii, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Indiana, Maryland, Penn State, Rutgers, Minnesota and Illinois. Without being battle-tested, will the Buckeyes have what it takes to beat a Top 10 team like Michigan State?
Michigan State has beaten Oregon. They’ve beaten Michigan at Michigan and their one loss was on the road to Nebraska. The difference in schedules is startling. Last week, the Spartans beat the 2-7 Terps with starting QB Conner Cook on the sidelines with a sore shoulder. MSU didn’t really need their star quarterback last week. Against the Buckeyes it will be a different story.
“Connor will be all right,” coach Mark Dantonio said. “I think he could have gone, but he felt like if he threw it hard, it would set him back.”
Why Bet #2 Ohio State (-13) to Beat #9 Michigan State
With J.T. Barrett entrenched as the starter, Ohio State’s QB situation should no longer be a distraction.
J.T. Barrett sat out a game for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He returned to play against Illinois and led the Buckeyes to a 28 to 3 win over the Illini. But, Barrett didn’t look all that great throwing the football. He went 15 out of 23 for 150 yards and a TD. He did rush for 74 yards on 16 carries for a TD.
Ezekiel Elliott piled up 181 yards and two touchdowns. The 6-foot, 225-pound running back carried 27 times, and had 129 of his yards and both TDs in the second half. He gave his blockers all the credit, saying they were “blowing guys off the ball.”
“Boy, Zeke is something else, ain’t he?” said Barrett, suspended for last week’s game after being cited for driving while impaired. “A positive run play is four yards, so when he’s popping out six, eight, nine yards on first and second down, that’s what you love in a running back.”
Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction
Michigan State will be tougher against Barrett. The QB proved last season that he can rise to the occasion. His very best game of the season occurred against MSU when Barrett threw for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns and rushed for 86 yards and 2 touchdowns. Barrett was terrific.
He’ll need to repeat that performance in order for Ohio State to win. Michigan State is more battle tested. The defense played much better against Maryland than it has all season long. Plus Connor Cook will play. My final score prediction is Michigan State 42, Ohio State 38.
