Let the good times roll with Jim Harbaugh in charge!
College football is much different now than it was when Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh built a power house program at Stanford University. Although playing good defense is still a must, teams have to be able to put point on the board in order to win.
This is where Harbaugh must excel. Michigan averaged less than 3 touchdowns a game in 2014. The Wolverines averaged 20.9 points per game last season. That ranked Michigan 112 in the points scored per game category. If Harbaugh doesn’t find a way to turn the offense around, Michigan won’t see many strides in 2015 under his leadership.
The top position battle at Michigan is at quarterback. That’s almost never a good thing. Shane Morris or Jake Rudock will likely be the starter versus Utah. Harbaugh hasn’t said which QB he’ll put under center. Morris has the most experience but Rudock might be more of a Harbaugh guy, a bit stronger, a more Andrew Luck type although he’s not anywhere close to being as talented as Luck was.

The freshman, Zach Gentry, has a ton of talent. Harbaugh is known to take chances. He might start Gentry in this game. The offensive line has 5 players with experience. That should only help the Wolverines put up points versus Utah on the road in Week 1. If the Wolverines can’t score with Utah, they’ll be in trouble.

Utah should be on your betting radar all season long.
Utah should put some points on the scoreboard in this game. They return most of their offensive line including Isaac Asiata and Siaosi Aiono. They also return their top rusher, one of the best in the Pac 12, Devontae Booker who averaged 130 yards per game in conference play in 2014. The quarterback, Travis Wilson, threw only 5 interceptions as a junior in 2014 after tossing 16 in 2013 as a sophomore.
Utah’s offense should be effective versus Michigan’s defense in this game. The key will be how Utah’s defense plays versus Harbaugh’s offense. The Utes ranked second in the Pac 12 in total defense in 2014. They allowed only 393.5 yards per game. Defensive end Hunter Dimick will anchor the D this season while the linebackers will be led by Jared Norris, who recorded 116 tackles last season.
The key for the D will be how well the secondary plays. Whoever plays QB for Michigan in this game will look to exploit Utah’s issues at cornerback. If Utah allows that to happen, they could be in some trouble in this matchup.
Final Score Prediction: Utah 31, Michigan 27
