Why Bet The Minnesota Golden Gophers To Beat The Cougars
The Golden Gophers (8-4 SU, 4-6-2 ATS) lost two of their final three games and come into their bowl game matchup off a humbling 31-17 loss to nationally-ranked Wisconsin in their regular season finale. Still, Minnesota is looking to reach the nine-win mark for the first time since the 2003 season. Unfortunately, the Golden Gophers have lost seven of their last eight bowl games.
Minnesota put up 30.3 points per game to rank a respectable 59th nationally in scoring as quarterback Mitch Leidner completed an underwhelming 56.4 percent of his passes for 2,040 yards with seven touchdowns and a costly 12 interceptions.
Wide receivers Drew Wolitarsky and Rashad Still have combined for 1,098 receiving yards and five touchdowns while running back Rodney Smith rushed for a team-high 1,084 yards and 15 touchdowns. Defensively, the Golden Gophers limited the opposition to 22.9 points per contest to rank an encouraging 32nd nationally in points allowed.
Why Bet The Washington State Cougars To Beat The Gophers
The Washington State Cougars (8-4 SU, 6-6 ATS) lost their final two games to nationally-ranked Pac-12 rivals Colorado and Washington and should have a ton of motivation because of it.
The Cougars were on the wrong end of a humbling 45-17 blowout against the fourth-ranked Huskies in their finale, but still have plenty of positives going for them coming into this contest, starting with the fact that they put up a whopping 40.3 points per game to rank 14th nationally in scoring.
Underrated quarterback Luke Falk has completed an incendiary 71.0 percent of his passes for 4,204 yards with 37 touchdowns and a manageable 10 interceptions.
Wide receivers Gabe Marks and Tavares Martin Jr. have combined for 990 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns while running back James Williams has rushed for a team-high 573 yards and six touchdowns.
Defensively, Washington State is allowing 27.1 points per contest to rank a mediocre 56th nationally in points allowed.
Holiday Bowl Pick & Final Score Prediction
70 percent of the betting public likes Washington State to win and cover the college football odds as a double digit favorite and I’m like….yeah, ya’ think?
All jokes aside, Washington State is far superior to Minnesota, particularly on offense and should be able to have the game well in hand by halftime.
Minnesota has gone 3-5-2 ATS in their last 10 games while Washington State has gone 15-7 ATS in their last 22 games.
I know the Gophers have a very good defense, but their offense is pitiful and will give Washington State’s high-powered offense too many opportunities in this contest.
The Cougars are playing not very far from home and will spank the Gophers like a clueless intruder to cover the spread.
