Bet The Mississippi State Bulldogs at +16 Because…
Mississippi State bounced back nicely from their season opening upset loss to South Alabama by beating South Carolina 27-14 in week 2.
Quarterback Nick Fitzgerald completed 19 of 29 passes for 178 yards with two touchdowns and one pick while rushing 17 times for a whopping 195 yards. Mississippi State is averaging 23.5 points and 433.5 yards per game and has turned the ball over just once this season. Defensively Mississippi State is limiting the opposition to just 17.5 points and 311 yards per game.
Bet The LSU Tigers at -16 Because…
LSU also bounced back from their season opening loss to Wisconsin by laying 34-13 smackdown on FCS resident Jacksonville State but clearly the Tigers haven’t been very impressive through two games.
New starting quarterback Danny Etling completed six of 14 passes in the win after replacing ineffective former starter Brandon Harris. LSU offense is averaging 24 points and 314 yards per game but could be without superstar running back Leonard Fournette for this contest. Defensively, LSU has limited the opposition to 14.5 points and 353.5 yards per game.
Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction
Simply put, I like LSU to get the win at home, but I certainly don’t see them covering a point spread that looks insanely high from where I’m sitting. LSU is just 2-5 ATS in their last seven games and 1-4 ATS in their last five games in the month of September.
Conversely, Mississippi State has gone 15-6 ATS in their last 21 SEC games and 4-1 against the spread in their last five September games.
The Bulldogs cover the spread with room to spare as double-digit road dogs
