Why Bet the Michigan State Spartans Odds at +10
The Spartans got past Iowa 17-10 in a hard-fought battle last weekend as quarterback Brian Lewerke completed 18 of 28 passes for 212 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions while the Michigan State defense held the Hawkeyes to a mind-boggling 19 rushing yards on 25 carries in the win. Lewerke added a team-high 42 rushing yards on 12 carries and the Spartans forced two turnovers while committing none in the win. For the season, Lewerke is completing 63.2 percent of his passes for 963 yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions. Defensively, the Spartans are limiting the opposition to just 18 points per game.
Why Bet the Michigan Wolverines Odds at -10
The Wolverines were off last weekend but beat Purdue 28-10 two weeks ago as new starting quarterback John O’Korn completed 18 of 26 passes for 270 yards with one touchdown and one interception after replacing former starter Wilton Speight who was injured against the Boilermakers. Running back Chris Evans led the way to victory with 97 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries while fellow back Ty Isaac added a rushing score in the win. Defensively, Michigan held Purdue to just 30 rushing yards on 13 total carries and is holding the opposition to just 13.5 points per game to rank a stellar eighth nationally in points allowed.
MSU vs Michigan Pick
The first thing you need to know about this matchup is that Michigan hasn’t lost a home game since November of 2015. Having said that, the Wolverines are the easy pick to get past a Michigan State team that is closer to mediocre than an actual conference title contender.
Michigan State is a winless 0-4 ATS in their last four road games and just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in the month of October and despite going a perfect 4-0 ATS in their last four road dates against the Wolverines, I’m thinking the Spartans are going to find scoring on Michigan’s defense extremely difficult.
I know John Harbaugh’s team isn’t exactly explosive on offense, but I like the fact that John O’Korn will be replacing the injured Wilton Speight and I believe that will help them narrowly cover the spread as a double-digit home favorite.
Pick: Michigan -10
