College Football National Title Expert Picks

It goes without saying that winning the College Football Playoff is a tough thing for teams to do. Repeating is very tough. Alabama, the 2016 CFB National Title winner, is the 2017 CFB National Title favorite. The Crimson Tide is at 5/1 to take home a second straight National Championship. But the Crimson Tide are not the most popular bet to repeat in 2017.

More bets have been placed on Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan Wolverines to win the national title than any other team. The Wolverines’ championship odds have shifted heavily from 15-1 to 7-1, making them the second favorites behind Alabama. Following Michigan in action are the OSU Buckeyes, who is 8-1 to win the national championship.

Should you bet on the Tide, the favorite to win the 2017 National Title? Or is backing the Wolverines the smart play? Keep reading for answers to these questions and more.

Analyzing My College Football National Title Expert Picks

The Odds-On Favorite To Win The 2017 CFB National Title: Alabama 5/1

The Crimson Tide lost too much to warrant a bet at 5 to 1 odds. My friend Wayne, an Alabama alum, recently told me that the only reason the Tide is the favorite in Vegas is because those “guys are worried about going against them”. It makes sense. What other college football team could lose most of their offensive line, their starting QB and Heisman Trophy winning RB, their top defensive player and a key defensive tackle, and still be the favorite to win the National Championship?

With that being written, don’t be surprised if the Crimson Tide has a shot at a rare college football national title repeat. The defense, even without Reggie Ragland and A’Shawn Robinson, is still plenty good. If the odds drift, they’re a must consider.

The Smart Bet To Win The 2017 CFB National Title: Michigan 7/1

The Wolverines odds have dropped from 16 to 1 all the way to 7 to 1. That’s impressive considering that Michigan’s John Harbaugh is only in his second season as the head guy in Ann Arbor. Then again, this is Jim Harbaugh. He’s considered to have one of the sharpest football minds on any level. The Wolverines went 10 and 3 last season. They return a lot of experience on both sides of the ball. If either QB Wilton Speight or QB John O’Korn can step it up, it’s hard to see Michigan not giving Ohio State a run for its money in the Big Ten. I just can’t look past how far the Wolverine’s odds have gone from when the 2017 CFB National Title lines were first set.

The Longshot Bet To Win The 2017 CFB National Title: LSU 12/1

The LSU Tigers don’t exactly have an easy schedule this season. But the Tigers take on Alabama at home. Not only that, new defensive coordinator Dave Aranda is considered one of the best d-coordinators in the nation. Coach Les Miles has given Aranda a gift since 10, that’s right, 10 starters return on defense for the Tigers. Offensively, LSU will have an excellent running game with RB Leonard Fournette, one of the favorites to win this year’s Heisman trophy, in the backfield. If LSU starting QB Brandon Harris can improve enough to not throw ducks to the sidelines, LSU could win the National Championship in 2017.
