Why Bet The Nebraska Cornhuskers To Beat the Iowa Hawkeyes

The Cornhuskers have won two straight and three of their last five including their convincing 28-7 win over Maryland last weekend as 13-point home favorites. Nebraska has plenty of motivation heading into this matchup as they seek to reach the double-digit win mark for the first time since 2012.

Senior quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. is still questionable for this contest after sitting out last week with ankle and hamstring injuries. In his place, backup Ryker Fyfe passed for 220 yards and one score while completing 62.2 percent of his passes.

The Cornhuskers are averaging a modest 28.7 points per game this season with Armstrong completing an uninspiring 53.3 percent of his passes for 2,055 yards with 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Nebraska’s rushing attack averages 186.1 yards per contest to rank 56th nationally. Defensively, Nebraska has limited their opponents to a fantastic 21.2 points to rank 22nd nationally in points allowed.

Why Bet The Iowa Hawkeyes To Beat The Nebraska Cornhuskers

The Iowa Hawkeyes have won two straight and four of their last six games overall. Iowa comes into this conference clash off a convincing 28-0 shutout win over Illinois last weekend to easily cover the spread as a 9.5-point road favorite.

Quarterback C.J. Beathard was limited to 80 passing yards and one interception, but the Hawkeyes didn’t need him to throw the ball often with running back Lee Daniels jr. rushing for a stupendous 159 yards and two scores on 26 carries and leading rusher Akrum Wadley chipping in 82 rushing yards and one score on 13 carries.

For the season, Beathard is completing a modest 58.2 percent of his passes for 1,730 yards with 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The Hawkeyes average 163.5 rushing yards per contest to rank 79th nationally.

While Iowa averages just 25.5 points per game to rank 87th in scoring, the Hawkeyes do have an elite defense that limits the opposition to just 18.6 points per game to rank 15th in points allowed.

Nebraska Vs Iowa ATS Pick & Final Score Prediction

Iowa man-handled Nebraska in last season’s 28-20 road win and I believe they’re the pick to get the narrow win at home against a Cornhuskers team  that hasn’t been firing on all cylinders over the last month.

I know Nebraska has gone 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 7-3-2 ATS in their last 12 games overall, but Iowa has gone 5-1 TS in their last six games after allowing less than 275 total yards in their previous game.

While the road team in this series is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings, I don’t like the way Nebraska has played recently. After watching Iowa take out No. 3 Michigan 14-13 at home two weeks ago, I’m thinking the Hawkeyes are in for a similar win over the Cornhuskers.

My final score prediction is Iowa 28 Nebraska 24
