Next Season’s CFB Title Picks

It’s already time to think about next season as College Football National Championship odds have just been released. Alabama is the favorite, but is Clemson in the mix?  Or, do the college football oddsmakers think that some other team can get the job done?

The 2017 College Football National Championship just ended. There’s a long way to next season. But, all that means is that we need to start planning for next year’s CFP winner.

2017-18 College Football National Championship Picks

Clemson hasn’t had a chance to parade its CFP Championship trophy and already odds are out for next year’s College Football National Championship. Check out the favorites before getting into my smart, my longshot, and my actual pick to win it all!

The Odds-On Favorite Pick To Win College Football National Championship: Alabama 3/1

The Crimson Tide shouldn’t lose that many players on either side of the ball. Not that it matters. Coach Nick Saban just reloads year to year. It’s almost a given that this coming season Alabama is going to be the best in the SEC. After all, offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will have an entire season under his belt. The defense is going to be just as ruthless as it was this season. 3 to 1 odds might be a gift.

The Smart Pick To Win College Football National Championship: Oklahoma 8/1

Oklahoma returns most of its players on defense. That’s the first reason to like the Sooners. The second reason to like the Sooners is because QB Baker Mayfield stated that he too will return. Mayfied becomes the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy next season. The final reason to like the Sooners is because the Big 12, like this season, shouldn’t be all that great.

The Longshot Pick To Win College Football National Championship: Penn State 30/1

The Nittany Lions almost pulled off the upset in the Rose Bowl over USC. It was a spirited game by Penn State, whose defense improved week to week this season. Penn State plays in the most overrated conference in college football, the Big Ten. If the Nittany Lions could beat Michigan, Ohio State, and Wisconsin for the Big Ten Championship this season, what’s going to stop them from winning it next season?  Nothing. That’s what. I think that Penn State offers a ton of value at 30 to 1.

The Sharp Pick To Win College Football National Championship: Florida State 7/1

The sharps are already all over Florida State to take home the title in 2018. Why not? The Seminoles return a defense that missed key players earlier in the season. Quarterback Deondre Francois was terrific as a freshman. If the Seminoles can protect Francois better next season than they did this season, FSU should be right there.

My Pick To Win College Football National Championship: USC 8/1

8 to 1 odds are awfully generous on a team that ended up ranked third in the nation with a 10 and 3 record. The biggest asset that USC has is QB Sam Darnold. Darnold returns next season. The defense should gain some depth while the offense always comes up with a solid WR or RB. Like the Big 12, the Pac 12 isn’t that deep. I think USC rolls through the Pac 12 with ease.
