Analyzing The North Carolina vs Duke Online Football Odds
The football program at Duke, yes, football at Duke, has turned into one of the better programs in the ACC. Duke battled Florida State in the ACC Championship last season and it looks like the Blue Devils are going to battle Florida State in the ACC Championship this season. Duke is at 4 and 2 in the ACC Coastal Division but have two conference games left. Georgia Tech is at 6 and 2 in the division. If Duke wins their last 2 games, they win the head to head against Georgia Tech thanks to their 31 to 25 victory over the Yellow Jackets in October.
Duke has a lot riding on this game on Thursday. The Blue Devils have to beat the rival Tar Heels for any shot at FSU in the ACC title game. Last season, Duke did beat UNC 27 to 25, but the two teams are different this season.
The Blue Devils offense is averaging 396 yards and 33 points per game. Duke likes to play a controlled offense where they rush and pass for close to 200 yards per contest. Duke’s entire game plan is to control the clock and keep their opponent’s offense on the sidelines. Duke’s style has helped the defense tremendously. The Blue Devils’ D only gives up 18 points per game. It holds teams to less than 200 rushing yards and less than 200 passing yards per matchup.
This is in contrast to North Carolina’s defense, which allows 511.9 yards and 41.2 points per game. North Carolina tries to outscore their opponents in order to get Ws with an offense that averages 431 yards and 36 points per matchup. Quarterback Marquise Williams has had a solid season. He’s thrown for 2502 yards and 18 touchdowns to only 8 interceptions. He’s also rushed for 623 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The trends say that this will be a close contest. North Carolina is 7 and 2 against the spread in their last 9 games following an ATS victory. The Tar Heels are also 4 and 1 against the spread in their last 5 games overall, but NC is 5 and 11 ATS in their last 16 road games. Duke is 15-5-1 against the spread in their last 21 games overall, 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 home games and 11-3-1 against the spread in their last 15 games on grass.
This game comes down to Duke’s defense versus North Carolina’s offense. Duke has a solid D that should stop North Carolina, or at least hold the Tar Heels to field goals, while North Carolina’s defense is downright bad.
Duke gets NC on their home turf. They should cover the spread.
