Bet on Northwestern (+27) Because…
Northwestern’s defense could control Ohio State’s offense. That’s a hard to thing to write after seeing that the Wildcats allow 414.4 yards per game on average. Northwestern also allows 21.9 points per game. But after looking at Northwestern’s results, it’s obvious to me that the defense is better than it sometimes plays. Duke only scored 13 points against Northwestern while Indiana scored only 14.
Wildcats coach Pat Fitzgerald realizes the Buckeyes are a little different animal than their previous opponents.
“Now the heavy lifting starts,” Fitzgerald said. “Nobody has a stiffer challenge than us. We have to take on the Buckeyes.”
Bet on Ohio State (-27) Because…
Ohio State wants to get back into the College Football Playoff discussion. That involves putting a beat down on every team from here on out. The Buckeyes lost 21 to 24 to Penn State in their last game. Ohio State was ranked second in the nation at the time. Ohio State must destroy teams in order to get back into the Top 5 and then the Top 4.
“Every goal is still alive,” Meyer said after the loss. “We’re not a great team right now.”
“Wow, that is as improved a team as I’ve ever seen from beginning to now,” Meyer said of Northwestern. “They’ve had three big wins with two on the road. Their defense is outstanding.”
ATS Pick & Final Score Prediction
Ohio State will be motivated, but the offensive line had a terrible time keeping Penn State’s pass rushers from getting to QB J.T. Barrett. What’s to say that Northwestern’s pass rushers don’t get to Barrett in this game?
The problem that I have with the point spread is that Ohio State hasn’t covered in 3 straight games. The 27 points is the second to highest spread that the Buckeyes have faced in all 3 of their previous games. The only higher spread was the 28 points that they gave to Indiana.
Ohio State may be the better team. But, perhaps, the smoke and mirrors that Urban Meyers has used so far this season are wearing thing. The smoke is dissipating and the mirror is about to shatter.
Northwestern will cover the 27-point spread making them my ATS pick.
