Notre Dame Vs ASU NCAAF Week 11 Expert Pick

8th ranked Notre Dame continues to impress but they face a seriously tough test this Saturday when they battle the likely Pac 12 South winner in Arizona State.

Notre Dame probably should have upset Florida State in the most controversial call from the refs so far this college football season. The loss took Notre Dame out of the Selection Committee Top 4. If Notre Dame has any hopes of getting back into the College Football Playoff discussion, they’re going to have to beat ASU straight up on the road.

Notre Dame Vs Arizona State NCAAF Week 11 Expert Betting Analysis

Notre Dame had what looked to be a game winning touchdown against Florida State in the waning moments of that game, but a pass interference penalty, a ridiculous call at that, pushed back the Irish to the point where they simply couldn’t win the game. Notre Dame ended up losing 27 to 31.

They’re still ranked high enough to where victories over ASU and some stumbling by the teams in front of them could push the Irish back into the College Football Playoff discussion. The problem that Notre Dame is going to have in their game versus the Sun Devils on Saturday has to do with a key loss on the defensive side. Top Irish linebacker Joe Schmidt fractured his ankle in the 49 to 39 win over Navy. Schmidt was the heart and soul of the Irish defense. Losing a player like Schmidt is going to have an impact on Notre Dame’s D.

Can ASU take advantage? The Sun Devils average 483 yards and 34 points per game while it holds opposing offenses to only 385 yards and 24 points per game. The defensive stats are skewed a bit by UCLA’s 62 to 27 victory over ASU in late September. Without the 62 points, the ASU defense would look much tougher on paper.

ASU has shown grit as well this season. They needed a Hail Mary pass against USC on the road in the final play of the game in order to beat that rival 38 to 34. A 26 to 10 win over Stanford was also impressive while beating Utah 19 to 16 last week shows how gritty the Sun Devils can be.

The team can play defense when it wants to, but it faces a very good Notre Dame offense, one that averages 458 yards and 35 points per game. The Irish defense only allows 21 points and 360 yards per contest.

The Sun Devils are actually 1 and 4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 1 and 4 against the spread in their last 5 non-conference matchups. ASU is also 1 and 4 ATS in their last 5 home games versus a team with a winning record.

Notre Dame is 6 and 0 against the spread versus a team with a winning record. This game could come down to coaching. In that case, there are very few coaches on Brian Kelley’s level. He’ll find a way to get the Irish past the Sun Devils on Saturday.
