Why Bet The Notre Dame Fighting Irish to beat the USC Trojans
The inconsistent Fighting Irish have alternated SU wins and losses over their last five games and come into this matchup off a crushing 34-31 loss to Virginia Tech this past weekend while failing to cover the spread as a 1-point favorite.
Notre Dame averages a healthy 31.3 points per game this season to rank a respectable 55th nationally in scoring as quarterback DeShone Kizer has completed 59.3 percent of his passes for 2,705 yards with 24 touchdowns and just eight interceptions. Kizer has also rushed for 509 rushing yards and seven touchdowns for the Fighting Irish in what has been a virtual one-man offense this season.
Defensively, the Irish are giving up 26.3 points per game to rank an identical 55th nationally in points allowed. Making matters worse for the program, on Tuesday, the NCAA ruled that Notre Dame must vacate wins from the 2012 and 2013 seasons due to academic misconduct, stemming from a student athletic trainer completing coursework for football players.
Why Bet The USC Trojans to beat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish
The Trojans have won seven consecutive games including their 36-14 blowout over longtime rival UCLA last weekend while covering the college football betting line as a 13-point favorite.
The USC offense is averaging a solid 31.8 points per game to rank 49th nationally in scoring as first-year starting quarterback Sam Darnold has completed a blistering 68.3 percent of his passes for 2,428 yards with 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Running back Ronald Jones has rushed for a team-high 893 yards and 10 touchdowns, while fellow back Justin Davis has added 528 rushing yards and two scores.
Defensively, the Trojans are limiting the opposition to just 21.7 points per game to rank an impressive 25th nationally in points allowed. The Trojans will advance to the Pac-12 conference title game if Utah can beat Colorado on Saturday because of its head-to-head victory over the Buffaloes.
"We’ll be big Utah fans next week," USC coach Clay Helton said after his team’s win on Saturday night. "We’ve set our mark at 7-2, and we’ve got to see if Colorado can match it."
Notre Dame Vs USC Pick & Final Score Prediction
While I’m not real fond of the double-digit point spread, I’m going to advise you to back the incendiary Trojans to get the SU win and narrow ATS cover against a Notre Dame team that isn’t nearly as good as they were expected to be this season.
Notre Dame is 1-4 ATS in their last five non-conference games while USC has gone 5-0 ATS in their last five games and 4-1 ATS in their last five home games.
More importantly, USC is playing outstanding defense right now and has a pair of elite cornerbacks that should both, give Notre Dame’s passing attack fits, before ending up playing on Sundays in the NFL in the very near future.
With the favorite in this series going 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings between these rivals, I say keep it simple and back the Trojans to get it done.
