Bet on Ohio State Because…
Ohio State’s offense is the best offense that Wisconsin has faced so far this season. The Buckeyes average a huge 537.6 yards per game. That ranks Ohio State sixth in the nation in yards per game. The Buckeyes are ranked third in rushing yards per game at 323.6. Ohio State averages over 53 points per game. The Buckeyes’ offense, by far, is the best that Wisconsin has faced yet this season.
Ohio State’s usually crisp passing game was mostly shut down by Indiana last week so J.T. Barrett had to get it done on the ground. Barrett rushed a career-high 26 times for 137 yards and a touchdown and threw for another score and No. 2 Ohio State beat Indiana 38-17. Barrett was 9-of-23 for 93 yards passing.
The Buckeyes realize they have to play better this week than they did against Indiana.
“Outstanding. The typical Wisconsin,” Meyer said. “I think it goes back to (former) Coach (Barry) Alvarez and what he’s built up there. I think Coach (Paul) Chryst … I can push play and see it’s one of the best coached teams in the United States of America. Very good players. They have their niche.”
Bet on Wisconsin Because…
Wisconsin’s defense is the best unit that Ohio State has faced in 2016. The Badgers allow 291.4 total yards per game. Wisconsin gives up 201 passing yards and 90.4 rushing yards per game. The Badgers also allow opponents to score around 12 points per game. The defense is solid enough that it might keep the Badgers in this battle against Ohio State.
“I think we’re all excited (to face Ohio State at night),” Wisconsin redshirt freshman quarterback Alex Hornibrook said. “It’s going to be an awesome atmosphere here at night in front of our fans. I can’t wait to play.”
Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction
One of the things that I always look for when handicapping horse races is quality of competition. Horseplayers call it class. It’s the same reason why Duke upset UNLV in the 1991 Final Four. Duke played in the ACC against classy opponents. UNLV played against weak opponents.
In college football it’s no different. There’s a reason why a team from the SEC always finds its way to the National Championship Game. It’s because the SEC is almost always stacked. Teams that survive the gauntlet that is the SEC come out stronger from the experience.
That’s the case with Ohio State versus Wisconsin on Saturday. The Buckeyes haven’t really beaten any classy teams this season. Sure, one can argue that Oklahoma is a classy team but the Sooners had lost to Houston before even battling Ohio State.
Buckeye opponents have been different than what Wisconsin has faced. When Wisconsin only allows 12 points per game, it’s allowing those 12 points to teams like LSU, Michigan State and Michigan.
The Badgers take on Ohio State at home. I don’t just think that they’ll cover the spread. I think that Wisconsin beats Ohio straight up on Saturday.
