Why Bet On Oregon To Beat Michigan State (-3.5)
Let’s hope QB Vernon Adams Jr. doesn’t have the yips after being knocked out of the game last week.
Oregon’s QB Vernon Adams suffered an upper body injury in the Ducks’ 61 to 42 victory over Eastern Washington in Week 1. Adams is the man that Oregon recruited, from Eastern Washington ironically, to transfer to Autzen and take over for 2014 Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota.
As he prepares to play Saturday at Michigan State, Vernon Adams says the most hostile environment he's played in before is Montana. #GoDucks

If Adams’ performance during the Eastern Washington game is any indication, Ducks’ fans have nothing to fear. Adams was brilliant in the win. He passed for 246 yards from only 19 of 25 passes. That’s a 9.8 yards per pass average. Adams rushed for 94 yards on 14 carries. That’s a 6.7 yards per carry average. Overall, Oregon rushed for 485 yards, an 8.5 yard per carry average, on their way to 731 total yards.
Although Adams got injured, the injury isn’t bad enough to keep him out of this game. Oregon’s defense always gives up a lot of yards. Facing another terrific spread formation team, the Ducks gave up 41 points and 549 yards in Week 1. If Adams and the offense plays as well against Michigan State, if Oregon is telling the whole truth about Adams’ injury, Michigan State could have a hard time keeping up, because Michigan State runs a different offensive system.
Why Bet On Michigan State (-3.5) To Beat Oregon
The Spartans need to control the clock to win.
Michigan State usually wins games based on their defense. The defense didn’t look all that great against Western Michigan in Week 1. Although the Spartans’ D was fantastic versus the run, it didn’t play very well against the pass.
Western Michigan QB Zach Terrell threw for 365 yards and 2 TDs. He also threw 2 picks, but Zerrell is a junior. Michigan State faces a senior on Saturday who is in his fourth season in the same system. Eastern Washington plays the exact same system that Oregon plays. Comparing Zerrell, to Adams makes no sense. Adams rushed for 94 yards while Zerrell rushed for -35 yards because Michigan State provided so much pressure.

Michigan State’s D gave up 24 points to Western Michigan. It might give up double that to Oregon if the Spartans’ offense doesn’t play keep away with Oregon’s offense. The Spartans have to do a better job of controlling the clock throughout the entire game versus Oregon than they did in last season’s battle between these two.
Michigan State lost 27 to 46 to Oregon last season because even though they won the time of possession battle, they only won it 33:40 to 26:20. Oregon’s offense is deadly when given almost any amount of time strike.
It’s hard to see Michigan State having much chance in this game if Adams is healthy. The Spartans’ D won’t be able to fix its issues in a week. Oregon should blow out the Spartans again. I am picking the Ducks while 54% of the betting public is backing the Spartans. My final score prediction is Oregon 55, Michigan State 30.
